Although I admittedly didn't like the system last year it was because I was in the same boat. And mostly, I wanted the noname team in the promotion round instead of a human team.
Now that I have had time to step back and look at it, the current system makes sense, at this time. Now as leagues level out more that could change. As I spelled out, in the U.S. II.1 and II.2 are close II.3 is behind and II.4 is way behind. I happened to check and assuming higher seeds win (except me) if I were to play for promotion and we were seeded based on OTR I would be in the exact same spot.

I just cant understand how ppl think its fair that in the longrun it will always be harder to advance from II.4 then II.1. Always since you meet the better team from I.1.
I wont win my final cuze my team is to bad for league one so Ill wait a season or two for a real try at the higher league

Food for thought!
The better team isn't necessarily higher in the standings. In my division I finished first in II.3. So I should get easier competition. Instead I got an elite goalie in round one and a team that played alot of low importance. In round 2 I got the other elite goalie in the division and A team that played every game on low. The guy in second has had a cake walk. I'm grinding in 3 game series and I played low 33 times in the reguler season. Stuff happens. I may not make the final. If I had the second place guys scheduale it would be much easier. No complaint, It's just how it worked out.

No game is 100% fair.
Hell, a manager joining PPM today is always going to be disadvantaged over people like who joined 3 seasons back... it's a fact. That does not mean they can't battle their way to the top leagues though, it's just a lot harder.
Fair? That depends on how you look at it.

Easily fixed... WIN league II.4, and you wont have to fight for promotion.
It's not like this is new this season, for 2 seasons already plus all the beta, this has been how promotion works. I agree with people saying that from the perspective of I.1 teams the higher placed PO team should get to play the "weaker" Div II. But it's all relative.
Also consider 17-20 work the same way, so placing higher in the automatic relegation group gets you into the "weaker" Div 2, which makes it easier to re-promote.
But, I don't understand why you are arguing about promotion in the US Q&A Soderb? Either way your opinion is yours, but those who disagree with you are not wrong either.

in all fairness he did ask in another q&a but it was answered here first.
Yeah it put it in both, but this thread had more responses so it was kept. I might drop the URL to this page over in the other thread.
And one of the issues is that for every alternative way I can think of to seed the p/r rounds, I can think of just as many ways that its unfair. Thats why I said that if their was a better system than to suggest it.
I would rather play another season in league II.4 and increase OR than get demolished in I.1 - a tougher play in game in my eyes is beneficial.
this is why the rewards for coming last in a higher division should be equal with the rewards for coming at the top of the division below.
The aim should always be to promote as this instills competition.

The prize money difference in season 2 was between 6th and 10th placee in the higher division versus 1st in the lower division. As you know you do get more OTR for league games in division 1. But likely should be adjusted to give more in 1 IMO. I'm in division II and the OTR hit to go into 1 would likely be huge. That 30% decrease on the update is big to overcome in my opinion without top flight goaltending to steal a few games.
It's a tough tightrope to balance. You want promoted teams to have a chance but don't want the bottom 1/2 of division 1 all looking to get relegated. Could be some very interesting game summaries during promotion/relegation and division 2 finals.

I think it's silly to not want to get promoted. You'll get less chances than you think. Also, I don't think anyone can quantify the loss from losing games and not picking up OTR compared to the increase in contract from being in league I.
I think I heard I.1 gets 2.6/win while in II.2 I'm pretty sure I've been getting 2.5/win. Well worth staying down if you ask moi

You don't know how staying down will effect your contract. Higher league, higher contract. Lower OTR, lower contract. I personally think it's folly to stay down. Besides, part of the fun of the game to me is to play the best competition.
