Each technology has its pros and cons. Our biggest and most crucial concern right now is CO2 mitigation. That's not being crazy and radical, that's fact. We're past the point of no return. The world is going to change and change dramatically. While other technologies (like solar power for example) how their drawbacks, cutting CO2 via a reduction in oil and coal dependence is paramount. We're starting a cascade effect where the more CO2 we release the more is released. This is, without a doubt in my mind, the biggest problem we face as a species and, unfortunately, will be the legacy this last 100 years will forever be remembered by.

People need to get around, sure. But there are other alternatives that aren't as CO2 intensive. However, policy continues to favour big oil, because, well, we all know why...
