Exactly. Current example is Bielsa's tactics with Athletic Bilbao, where he plays 3-4-3, without full backs, but Iraola and Gabilondo mostly plays as defensive wingers, while Toquero and Muniain plas as inside forwards
You can play with 3xCB, but with also RB and LB in PPM. In real life a lot of teams actually plays without side defenders

I was about to ask the same as Alkeis. I mean, it's so nice and artificial how you and izzax post pass to each other the whole day. But you talk about this as if you absolutely know the truth. And I daresay you don't.

I already played several times with 3 CD and 0 SD and i didn't saw problem at all, including at NT level..
Also que 2nd placed team in our league last season probably played all matches with one empty zone (sometimes only 1 SD others with only 1 SM)..

Yeah, go on (but the suggestion or formation thread would really be more suited).
But then, that last question is justified and interesting. As Larsson pointed out, I would not be as sure as you are.

As I see at quick look - Larson was playing last season with 1CD and 2SD
And I am not sure from when this tactics are so drastically penalized.
Now I am sorry why I didn't play today some of this tactics.

I have played with out right sidemidfielder many times with good success! I see no penalty in there! I see penalty if you have players playing side by side!(more than two)
