They are just following the rules. Rules should be changed. OTR gains should be much lower for lower divisions.
Following is the wrong word used. Exploiting is the correct word.
Heck even the auto lineup at least tries to put in your top players. Postions may be way off but at least it seems to want to follow the rules. Putting your worst possible lineup out there is just out right abusing the rules.

Absolutely. I am not saying they are breaking any rules. They are doing what they feel they must. I think its just a matter of ethics. Taking advantage of a system that has no rules against it doesn't make it right.....or wrong for that matter. Just looks poorly on them to others who think its in bad taste.
I agree on the exploiting part. It´s up to the devs to avoid the abusing part.
@ trueblue yup I agree completely.
@Blackkat Oh I just assumed that's who you were talking about. He's been tanking it for sure. You don't just go from 72 Gk rating to 8 or 0 in the playoffs without injury or running a camp due to any reason other than tanking it.
@flyers yup you got it right all around. Personally I think they should be auto demoted, with the OTR penalties associated retroactive for all the years tanked like that, to the lowest league.

It may not be strictly against the rules, but it is unsportsmanlike.
Think of the players in that same league who desperately WANT to promote and keep losing out because some idiot tanks on purpose.
He/she may be earning great OTR, but he/she is also stopping others from promoting.
And THAT needs to be punished seriously as it absolutely destroys the game for other players.

Well technically if they are losing in the 1st round they aren't stopping people from promoting, if they come in second on purpose and then throw their promotion game, that is different.
I'm just running an experiment, I stated it waaaaay back when we started in season 2 about income how the system was broken and the best way to go about making money and building a team if you started later than others. I stated the best way to do it and everyone said "noooo thats not true". I said well, if you all want to believe that bs then I'll prove it. They never said it was illegal, they never said it was against the rules so I'm making the best with what I have - why promote when there is no incentive to promote? Why lose OR, lose money and lose everything else? I started a year behind most people and I am just making up time and money the best way to do it. When my team is strong enough to take the top 5 so I keep gaining OR or when my team has some sort of benefit for losing repeatedly in an upper league and only falling behind, if you look at the teams who demote, they get smoked in div II because all those top teams have passed them up, and the top teams in div II are usually the teams that spent 1-2 seasons kicking people around in div III and gained OR so quickly. Otherwise the teams that have been in the middle have deprecated old lineups that train poorly and can never get over the hump. They never get the money to build up their team OR facilities both at once like the others and end up stuck in the middle the entire time.
This is the exact scenario that I pointed out when I first started and everyone said that we'd catch leggman within 3 seasons etc etc etc. Take a look at it now, exactly the same pretty much outside of some top I.1 teams folding up. All the guys who are in stick in the middle of the grind are mad, all the people playing the same way are quiet and all the people at the top don't give a crap because the system is built for them to endlessly succeed as long as they can manage to build facilities and guess / fake out other people in paper rock scissors.

I also didn't try to throw game 3, I had just stupidly set c as my standard when the camp was running and just got back to town today from an install in cedar city utah. My team came back from camp and I had assumed that I would have an automatic lineup generated that would win easily. If I had wanted to "properly" throw the playoffs I'd win a few rounds and then bomb out on purpose at the end so that I could maximize my money. If you look my 3rd best goalie prior to two days ago had a goaltending that was stupidly low, I put both keepers in camp and apparently sold my #3 this season. I put in bunches of bids on goalies but I could never seal a deal on one worth buying, I ended up paying a few million for a 1/6 goalie in hopes of squeaking through. I got him, but had lost the series so now he's starting and I sent pretty much the same group to camp.
So you lost it by accident, however your also just suggested that you would have lost on purpose later in the series anyway, therefore screwing others out of a potential promotion. So it's a good thing you lost now.
To be honest I was considering throwing it again to benefit my team but when they offered the bonus to move up i was all for it.The move uo bonus is a step the right way, that said it's still not enough.
Why are everybody pissed on people who deliberately stay in lower leagues ?
It would be almost as if you are pissed on people who are in weak I leagues.

It's not about people staying in the lower leagues, but about how a lot of them do it.
Many of them play well and win the league and then make sure they tank in the 2nd or final round of the playoffs. That way they get the best OTR gain without promotion.
The problem is, there will be others in that league who DO WANT to promote and end up losing in the playoffs to teams that a round later, choose to lose on purpose.
It's an incredibly selfish strategy and screws other managers out of promotion.

If anybody wants to play in I league, he should deserve to play there. Meaning - it's hard for me to believe that anybody who barely gets to No 8 in the table, has a chance to promote to I league.
Did that ever happen ?
