I think it really depends on where people come into the league. When I first came in to DIV III I remember seeing the Bombsville Atomics with a team that was outrageous compared to the rest.
To counter that Eeoulu popped in with his now famous message about what to do and I managed to make some friends and rivalries early on and within two seasons I found myself where Bombsville was and I've been encouraged.
Div II will be a tougher nut to crack and I expect it to take 3-4 seasons to have a decent chance of promoting to I (maybe more). I may never win Div I, but getting there is a goal that I believe is achievable.
I think we have some really helpful people in the US and I think that has to be the focus of any "marketing" campaign, not a guaranteed chance to compete in Div I in a short period of time.
We need to be at the point where Div III isn't a bunch of bot teams so that friendships and rivalries can be created early in the experience.

Please don't misrepresent what I said. I absolutely did NOT say anything about a "guaranteed chance to compete in Div I in a short period of time". No one has said that. It is a straw man.
What I did say is that I think it's important for the retention of new users that once they have settled in to the game, they can see a path in the future where they will one day be able to compete. If new users look around after a season or 2 and notice that not only are they a long way from competing, but their rate of improvement is slower, and they have to go down to the second or even third derivative before they see an advantage over the top teams, there is going to be a problem.

I really hope this forum for discussion of things related to league 1.1 isn't turning into a substitute for QandA, suggestions, or chit chat forums. I stopped reading those for a reason, and this is the last one I regularly read.
Good point. I stopped reading all the others as well, a long time ago.
I'll stop now. I didn't really want to have the discussion (again) anyway, just wanted to give our new captain a head start understanding some of the issues.

This is just the most active place... and if I would post it somewhere else not everyone would see it...

What type of info is confidential, the money? That's commonplace around here, you're going to be deleting a lot of posts

in some ways it's easier to compete now from the lower leagues than it was on day one - there are guys on the market who are very good OTRwise even compared to the top guys (though they are probably older or in some other way flawed or they'll be prohibitively expensive), the top teams are paying through the nose for any improvemnet they make to their stadium or facilities and each improvement will take months to acheive and the top teams are mostly built of guys who are 19-20 years old so if you get a core of decent guys together now you'll have a chemistry advantage over them when they start to split up...and finally the game itself seems to have a law of diminishing returns type of algorithm built into it where the difference in skill between two players ranked 100 and 50 is much greater than the difference in skill between two players ranked 600 and 550...
of course it's still going to be very tough to get ahead, but in many ways the gap is becoming narrower.

I believe at the higher OR levels other attributes begin to play into the mix and since most players are being built with simple 2-1-1 ratios (or variations on this theme) they are not being trained in any of the other attributes which is most likely making them less effective than they would be.
I'm sorely tempted to move my hockey team into a much broader training regimen to see how they perform. I'm already doing this for soccer since there are far more attributes in play and I'm already seeing some interesting results.
The problem is that if I do this I will be diminishing the money I can get from players I sell on the market because the primaries won't be as high as others at the same OR.
Still, if it makes my team more successful....

Yep, it's a very interesting idea. In the past I started to set something up where I trained 2 of my starting lines more broadly, and 2 of them 2-1-1. But I abandoned it mostly out of laziness. Maybe this upcoming season would be a good time to go back to that and see what happens. Hockey wise, I am mostly curious about what happens if you put passing on wingers, and offense on defensemen.
Chompin at the bit to see who get a face full of YETI on game 1.
GL in 6 all you monkeys!

lost a CL point on 8 starters this year including Buckley...ugh.
only lost a point on 2 of the bench / market guys though.

OH my :/ I just noticed it's a sad day in I.1 with the loss of Bruinsfan so the Americans have gone mangerless.
We'll miss you brother!
