They actually don't use more energy, at least I haven't noticed any differences. But maybe they should.
Take a look on players energy after match where you have about 5 PowerPlays 
I guess they do likE Chiz said its about 1 lost point compared to the other players...
It depends on number of PP/PK in the game.. may be more than 1 point !
and are we sure that players don´t gain more experience????

okok, I suppose that if they lose more energy they gain more experience.... but I don't know exactly....
I have 2 players, both pulled 326 days ago. Both have played since they were pulled. One played PP and PK, the other not. Player with PP/PK has played 10-20 games more.
I also have another player who has played 10-20 games more then the one with PP/PK, but he is 40 days older.
Player without PP/PK: 48 exp
Older player without PP/PK: 59 exp
Player with P/PK: 68 exp

Important numbers!!!!!!!!!! So PP/PW gain experience....
I don't know how much exp the national team gives, but I don't think it is much.
