well my starting 11 did not change last 5 games, but my off strength did. I could of course be wrong, but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced such a suspicion.
If you change position of the players on the field the score will aslo change. For example: attacker will have more influence on off score when he is closest to the goal, but if you put him one position away from goal, to the back, he is still in the offence quadrant, but he has smaller influence to the offence and slightly bigger influence to the midfield. Same counts for any player on the pitch. central midfielder that is positioned in the exact center of the pitch will have major influence on the midfield, and smaller influences on both defence and offence. But if you move him 1 position towards the defense than it will still have major influence on the midfield, but also smal influence on the def and minor on the off. I hope you do understand.
And just for the record: I am rather new here, so dont take this for granted. Its what I think it is, and Im pretty sure of it. But better wait for someone more experienced to confirm.

Just one more thing: take my team for example, I use all the same 1st 11 players, same formation, just change the positions more up or more down, and my offence varies from 21 to 26. Same thing with my mid and def lines.
Thats right, you have moved one of your attackers one position towards back. That means his influence on offence is a bit smaller. And his influence on midfield is a bit bigger. So your off probably got a bit smaller, and your midfield either stayed the same or got a bit higher.
I agree that changing position changes teamstrength. However, that only explains the change between today and last game. The 4 games before today I did not change positions....
and what was the difference in the strength? what was the numbers in last 5 games? Because I see you have good training object, so maybe one or both of your attackers got better, enough better to raise you the off score. Or maybe the substitutes have some influence on the strength too. I didnt test that yet.
Here are the 4 games where I did not change the lineup:
game 9 - off str 44
game 10 - off str 45
game 11 - off str 45
game 12 - off str 44
so first it went up and then down. in the games it went down I did substitute a side midfielder for one with worse off. that is where my suspicion of subs having influence comes from.

Anyone have any ideas how to shut down a star striker? This guy's RF is one of the best in the game. I tried a heavily defensive tactic and overloaded my defensive coverage on his side... he scored 3 goals.

I believe the other attacker give some pressure to your def too. So, why don't you set all your CD defensive not just one?
What do you mean? They are all playing "defensive". I move them up closer to the midfield because they all have an element of midfield training thus get a better rating in that slot. Also, in real life, it increases the pressure due to an effective "trap" but I may be giving the ME too much credit there.
I would have played a more aggressive game against them, and possibly had a more balanced attack, but yeah, hard to stop a striker who's on his game like that.
Ah well. Chalk it up to an experiment... can you shut down one player if you really wanted to: No.
I kinda have a similar team with one striker significantly better than everyone else (though as a whole my team is not nearly as strong as the Kenora Stingers), and the number one way people seem to stop my star is by dominating midfield possession which seems to lead to very few shots on goal.
I guess only with 20+ defender. If you take too much players on him, other parts will suffer.
