After the 1st, 1-0 Brazil; the U.S. leads 10-9 in shots.
Myrick has replaced Austin since Myrick is a stronger player with good chemistry and more energy (though weaker in shooting). Means (2C) and Fiorito (2RW) have moved up to the first line due to energy considerations.

"Craig Means fires it in from neutral zone and scores?!"
1-1. The United States needs one more goal before the end of regulation.

Power play #2 for the United States. 2 shots on goal and no goal. Means was tripped but no call.
Brazil wins 3-2. The United States outshot Brazil 31-28. The United States will continue on to the relegation round.
The relegation round will be 3 games. The United States will face Bulgaria (who they beat 5-1), Belarus (who demoted from the top division last year), and Ukraine. Bulgaria and Belarus are about even with the United States with stronger offenses. The Ukraine is weak.
It looks like the United States once again one the tactics battle (and also used the tactic that best suits its strength) once again. In the end, the United doesn't have a very strong team this year (though last year and next year will be strong) and was fighting and will continue to fight in the relegation round an uphill battle.
At the very least, empty net goals aside, the United States didn't lose a single game by more than one goal.

I think our 5-1 win over Bulgaria carries through into the relegation round, right? So that's a good start for us, at least.
You're right. Thanks for pointing that out. That seems to have been the case last year.
