I'm thinking one during the season for reserve players. And then one in the offseason for roster players.

I try and do both in the middle of the season and send my most likely to become stars. This also will get your starters some rest. This stategy however can really screw you over in playoff rankings but if this isn't a big deal and you dont forsee your team fighting for promotion or against demotion it can really boost your stats and energy for the end of the year.
i do exactly what you describe...or try to. first week of the season for trainees...off season for the main roster. though, sometimes training needs change the timing.

I'm thinking about loading up on a bunch of dummies who won't play to dillute the probability any of my good players will be injured the next time the "random factor" strikes. That should be a lot cheaper than upgrading the medical facility.
