A number of teams I have played in friendlies recently have played them on very high intensity. Why? I thought the rule of thumb was to play them on low intensity.
They may have not changed their tactics. it is a waste of energy, for sure, but there is no "rule" just what is commonly practiced. But it's near end of season, so they may be blowing any left over energy to try and add extra OTR
It's the end of the hockey season. Energy resets in a few days. Playing on High now doesn't matter. But it can gain you that extra little bit of OTR.
That is true. But it's an unwritten code to play very low in friendlies. I feel like a dick playing anything else.
Unwritten means not enforced though. Just remember anyone can do what they want at anytime within the actual written rules, and you'll be fine

Yeah I played a few times on high I just feel like a dick. You have to follow the gentleman's code from time to time
