I also believe in improvements. And I believe in individual plays, though probably not very complex individual plays. And I'd like to believe in goalie and assist statistics, by the way!

But honestly, when did the ppm-staff really explain something in relation with the engine? And btw, I think they should not do that.

One question to the 'non-believers': We certainly have individual plays when there is a corner or free kick (otherwise the guide-given skills and the choices we need to make during line-up won't make any sense). Why shouldn't there be normal individual plays?

Perhaps its not the game engine that needs an overhaul (I'm sure it is constantly evolving) but in fact the lack of reported information (stats) that is bothering you. I'm always in favor of more stats. The more stats the better.
It´s not evolving constantly... it´s enhancements are discrete and incremental rather than continuous.
I'm not saying its on a daily/weekly update or anything, just that its never *finished*

Making good game engine that involves individual plays is vary vary serious job. There are many individual plays, like position play where many players are involved, 4 on 4, 3 on 4, 3 on 3, 2 on 3, 1 on 1, etc.
Chain of plays - going from one individual play to another - for example - one on one play on side, if offensive player win that duel he crosses and then there is second duel - forward against defender and goalkeeper for example in the air.
Possibilities and chances that some individual play will happened and outcome from that play depend on tactic and player skills.
For example:
Team A have ball at center - team tactic is possession - chance for short pass is 75% and for long 25% and then number from 1 to 100 is randomly picked - if it's <25 it's a long ball, >25 it's a short pass. Chances for result of the pass depends on passer skills, opposition players around him, etc - when chance is calculated the number is picked again and that number gives the result. If pass was on side - biggest chance to get the ball have winger, if it was trough the middle then the chances are on AMC or central forward side. Player with good technique and pass have big chance to try pass in free space for forward - And so on.
It's all about in correctly calculating chances that something will happened - depending on teams tactics and players.
I am not expecting that there should be 90 minutes of individual plays, but there is solid base that should be upgraded. It's like giving sense to live coverage that at this moment have no sense

Not to mention those calculations are time consuming and there are how many of thousands of games each day. To do those calculations would cause a massive strain and would not get all the calculations done in time for the live matches.
Well if there is 20-30 (average) individual play chains per match - it shouldn't be so time consuming. I know online sport manager game that have play-by-play engine for whole match.
And in that case - live coverage would be almost completely defined by match engine - we would have good engine and adequate live coverage at same time

I still think it would be way too computational consuming.
Let the random play its part.
