NC Champions Last Season. Ousted R2 this year. Blah!!!
I'm having a tough time understanding the value of blocking, mine players have very high and I thought that was the key to good defense..
Sometimes it is the only ratings advantage I have and my team rarely loses in Div II
My 19 year old PG has trained this way
40 94 100 80 81 45 46
Is this wrong?

I'm not sure anyone knows for sure yet how much impact blocking has. There seems to be a general concensus that taller players need more blocking then smaller ones. So this means PF and C needs lots and PG and SG needs less. I'm honestly not sure what is correct
I don't think taller players need more blocking, they all need a lot of blocking to be effective in defense.
Blocking = Defense. And I mean pretty much anything that has something to do with the defense, not just blocking a shot. Forcing a turnover, intercepting passes, and blocking a shot or a player taking a shot, it's all blocking.
Size doesn't matter for blocking because your small players are generally playing against small players, and the tall players are playing against the tall players. You want your PG to be effective defensively against other PG's, you want your SG to be effective defensively against other SG's, etc.
The only thing tall players do defensively that the small players don't do is getting rebounds, and it has nothing to do with Blocking, it's all Aggressiveness and Jumping.

There's also some who think this way. Which is why I said I don't think anyone knows for sure. It's still guesses for now
Btw blocking isn't the only stat that helps with defense. Jumping, speed, aggressiveness also help. Considering the big men have those stats higher, maybe them having higher blocking makes sense, just a thought
Well, this is in the guide:
"Blocking: The blocking attribute is used by players in defense. Blocking represents the ability of players to block both shots and opponents who are getting ready for a shot. Blocking is also important in the efforts to force a turnover by disrupting the play of the attacking team and intercepting passes."
I think it's obvious blocking is important for everyone and not just the tall players. But every manager decides how they want their team. You can get all your players at maybe 80 blocking and have a "two-way" team. You can have offensive guards and defensive tall players, can also be the other way. Or you can just put almost nothing in blocking and go yolo in offense.
Maybe there's a way to train the players in offense/defense that's more effective than everything else, but it's really just impossible to know.
