I think "random results" are mainly caused by different attribute balances between teams.
Main attribute monsters (e.g. 2-1-1) vs. good secondary attributes+good shooting creates confusion for the game engine and that makes results "random".

Ahh, gotcha, I've never played craps but I can see what you mean in that only 1 combination makes 2 or 12 whereas what 3 make a 7. Probability.
Well anyway, I wont be bandying the random word as often. It still might be random when it blurts out... oh darn darn darn darn darn.

I agree. Thats why the stars and pucks, while a good guide, are not the be all, end all
ironically, I use the word all the time in real life.
I had an ex that used it a lot and I picked it up from her. Of course its in a completely different context.

To get technical, computers can't do true random, they use a function/algorithim that takes a variable input, like a date or the time and use it to create a randomly generated number. However there is no true Random in computers
Currently the Technique attribute has a very small influence on the outcome of the faceoff. The reason for that is to avoid a team with strong tech winning 50 out of 60 faceoffs which doesnt happen in real hockey. However, we admit that this influence is too small as it is right now and this is planned to be adjusted in the future along with some other improvements of the game engine.
i knew i'd read something like that somewhere and that someone much smarter than me would bring it up
Random implies it's literally just an absolute luck type situation. I don't believe the system to be setup that way.
While things may appear random, i do believe that that "random" is always based on certain situations or scenarios created by the 2 teams playing at the time.
For that reason, it stops being pure randomness and becomes a case of scenario based probabilities, which I believe every game has in place.
The probability factor of your team beating a strong team might be higher than my team beating an equally stronger team because of events on your team, such as your chemistry, player skills, etc.
So in summary.. no, i believe random is the wrong word to use in this case. Probability factor is more accurate in my opinion.
