I'm copying a reply I made to a post by Wolfie in another thread regarding advice to a new player. I forgot to mention a few things.
Advice for newbies
In the short term, I would make a lot of small investments that lift your team above the rest:
* Increase all your facilities to Level 3. With your training and HR facilities, continue investing in them whenever you can. They are the key to long-term success.
* Make sure all your players are training one of the four primary skills (Goa, Def, Mid, Off). They won't increase much at first but as your training facility gets better they will.
* Buy some cheap players (pay no more than $10,000 -
the minimum) and aim for at least twice as good as your current players. I would start with four (keeper, centre defender, centre midfielder and centre forward), see how they go then buy more when you're ready but don't pay more than the minimum in the early stages. Before you start buying, ask for advice here on ideal ratios of secondary skills so you don't get poorly trained players. Don't worry if they're old but try not to get players with wages that are too high.
* Increase the capacity of each of your stands to 200.
* Hire staff. Each week you will be offered a staff member. Take them on till you've got at least one in each facility. Make sure they are training something.
* You will also be offered players each week but generally they will be worse than what you have and you don't have the facilities yet to train them up so don't bother with them yet.
This will give you the foundations for longer term success which we can help explain as you go. Read the guide. Ask questions. And good luck!

Gutted, heartbroken, crying in the gutter - lost the final in a penalty shootout!
Well done Colah soccer.powerplaymanager.c...
Zane Hatley kicked the goal to level the scores, then missed in the penalty shootout, so suppose I can’t be too harsh on him

Woohoo! I thought I might be in trouble with two frontline players suspended and another injured, but we scraped through.
Well played BF! You'll get your trophy yet.
