I'm using 2:1:1 for my goalie and 4:3:2 for everyone else. It get me good result
I could help out a little. I might know a little bit about the game

I think 4:3:2 or 2:1:1 build depends on that player's quality for its secondary attribute.
eg/ a winger with quality 60 and 90 in Tec and Agr respectively == 2:1:1 build
eg/ a winger with quality 90 and 60 in Tec and Agr respectivel == 4:3:2 build
dun see the point of intentionally training all ur players to 4:3:2 or 2:1:1 (just look at the secondary attribute's quality to decide ur build type for each player)

It was not me who ran for GM it was Saint
I was just filling in details while he is on his honey moon.

that is EXACTLY what i do... i guess i'm not alone with my training strategy

So Vlaw, it is the belief of myself and Saint that 2:1:1 is the most efficient way to gain stars. We also believe the stars are the exact representation of what the game engine thinks of your team.
We believe the 4:3:2 wastes a bit of time because you have to train extra time in the "3"
But 4:2:2 means you can spend more time training the primary.
Basically when you have full energy, an entire team of players with 100 primary (and minimum of 50/50 on secondaries) will have 10 pucks in every category, which is also the same as 50 stars.
Or 120 primary (min 60/60 secondaries) would be 12 pucks (60 stars) etc.
Since all the players have different primaries, the values are averaged and you get the team we have today.
4:3:2 doesn't mean they won't be selected, but since 4:3:2 players have to spend more time training one of their secondaries, the guys training 4:2:2 usually end up with better primaries (which in our opinion) is the main goal.

Yes, Ketch is correct. This year we're going to focus more on 2:1:1 as it seems to be the ratio that the game engine uses to indicate pucks/stars in the game/team information.
As well, I'm putting a higher emphasis on Shooting this year as most teams tend to lag behind in shooting pucks/stars. So let's get everyone to submit their players! I want to have a large pool to draw from!

Well, everyone has at least 2 weeks I am guessing
Since he won't get back until then.
(BTW Saint is dropping extra players now to make room for the new/same ones)

Yup... I'm going through the current team, keeping the top 20 players as I see them, and cutting the rest.
This does NOT mean that your player(s) won't be on Team Canada this year. I'm keeping the bare minimum amount of players until we can get players submitted to the Player Submitter page.
It's then when the Team Canada team (you know who you are) will pick the remaining 30 players... Right now I really don't have that much time to analyze players, so I'll expect my helpers to do some scouting on their own and provide feedback for me when I get back from my honeymoon.
Until then, have fun guys! I know I will.

PS> It is more advantageous to either A) add your player to the player DB shortly before the deadline (yet to be announced, but will be provided with lots of time)
OR even better B) add player/update player in player database now, and then also right before the deadline.
