Today the 1-1 Tomahawks faced off against the 0-2 Cleveland Lake Fires at the DCU Center. The Tomahawks just came off a close 5-4 win against Cool Beans and was hoping to walk away with a solid win at home and boy did they deliver. The 941 fans walked away with a solid win from the home crowd.

The first period started strong for both sides but 8 minutes in Artturi Varvikko put the Tomahawks on the board leading 1-0. The horn didn't stop going off after that though with goals from Miłosz Abramiuk, Barry Welsh capitalizing on a powerplay, and Chad Gill making the score going into the 2nd period 4-0. The Cleveland Lake Fires had a mountain to climb and it would not be easy after having 23% of the first period in the offensive zone.

The second period started the same way the first did with a quick goals from Artturi Varvikko and Raleigh Collier. It looked like the Cleveland Lake Fires would give up until 2 minutes after Raleigh Colliers goal, when Benjamin McGuire received a pass from Fredrick Bierlein and made the score 6-1. Later in the period the captain Tomáš Zaplatílek of the Tomahawks scored making it 7-1. The Cleveland Lake Fires were trying to desperately climb back into this game as Rafael Richard cut the score down 7-2. It seemed as if the Tomahawks would sit comfortably with a 5 goal lead over the Cleveland Lake Fires but Anthony Reyes furthered the score to 8-2.

At the start of the Third the Cleveland Lake Fire showed some fight with an early goal from Kirk Hiatt but that was it from them. The tomahawks put 3 more goals on the board from Bert Christenson, Ira Walker, and a powerplay goal from Tomáš Zaplatílek making the final score 11-3.

A great win for the tomahawks but still the Tomahawks goalie Vlads Mežozols is still struggling. The offensive zone time for the Lake Fires was 23%, 29% and 26% and let three goals by on 14 shots. The Tomahawks manager was hoping for a better start to the season from the new signing but he has been playing below average.

Three Stars
1. Artturi Varvikko 2G,3A,+3
2. Barry Welsh 1G,4A,+4
3. Miłosz Abramiuk 1G,3A,+3

I think we should keep a III.7 league record book, so, if you want to, keep track of more specific stats throughout the season and me and a couple of volunteers will make it at the end of the season and keep it going.

Tyler Henson

Good game today greens. We were on different levels of importance but it made it a good game

Greens1234

Yeah. Good thing I'll be playing you a lot this season because we always have good games.

rampageTG

Well sounds interesting down here as always. I've only won 1 game so far which was a 2-6 win but I'll take it after getting blown out majorly the past two games.

Greens1234

Maybe one of your rivals will be right up there with you next season.

rampageTG

That's if I manage to stay up here. you can check my calendar my first two games where horrid. Especially the second one.

Press Release:

Well the Tomahawks this season have never made it easy on themselves and that was clearly evident today. Today Iowa Energy faced the Tomahawks in the Volt Arena. 400 people came out to cheer on the home crowd but they certainly were in for a show.

The first period the Tomahawks dominated the offensive zone with 56% of the period being spent in the Iowa Energy's half. They got 8 shots off all of which came up empty handed. Iowa Energy nearly equaled that which was impressive due to the minimal time in the offensive zone with 9 shots, 1 more than the Tomahawks. This could be attributed to the 11-8 face-off wins in Iowa Energy's favor. At the end of the first however the score was still 0-0.

The second period had different results. 60% of the period was spent in Iowa Energy's half but that didn't stop Terrence Dowdy from putting one in the back of the net after receiving a dime from Craig Urban. This power-play goal after Ira Waller was in the box for cross-checking gave them a 1-0 lead. But not even a minute later at full strength Pete Lamb lit the lantern making it 2-0. The Tomahawks would have a mountain to climb heading into the third. However Mark Odell pushed one through before the close of the period only leaving the Tomahawks with a 1 goal deficit which would be manageable the way they had been handling the game.

The start of the third started like every other period but this time the Tomahawks were attacking hard. It took awhile but with 10 minutes left in the period Raleigh Collier took advantage of Clyde Ackerman roughing penalty and slammed one home to tie the game 2-2. Iowa Energy had one more chance to put the game away on a Drew Bassett holding penalty but nothing happened and this game was going to overtime.

Overtime had nothing special to be seen with only 1 shot from Iowa Energy. It seemed both sides thought they could win the game in the shootout which the Tomahawks have been familiar with this season. Pete Lamb was the first shooter going against Vlads Mežozols who was having his best game of the year with a 90.48% save percentage on 21 shots. Pete Lamb would miss his first shot which led to Barry Welsh going up against Rowland Powell who was having an even BETTER game between the pipes with a 94.29% save percentage on 35 shots. However his skill couldn't stop Barry Welsh's ripper as he put the Tomahawks up 1-0 in the shootout

Unfortunately for Iowa Energy that's how the shootout remained with misses from Cordell Peltier and Emilio Ford. The Tomahawks walk away with a 3-2 win over Iowa Energy at home putting them with a record of 0-2-0-1. They have won two games however both have been in overtime which is not beneficial for the standings. It seems as if the Tomahawks will have to work on their defense to prevent goals from happening like this early on.

Three Stars
1. Rowland Powell (Iowa Energy): (94.29% SV)
2. Terrence Dowdy (Iowa Energy): (1G)
3. Raleigh Collier (Tomahawks): (1G)

Tyler Henson

I got the worst schedule possible. I played Rochester (relegated team) first, then I played Bridgeport (2nd last season), then I played Greens (my only win so far) then I played the Michigan Red Wings today (another relegated team). This stinks. I start the season 1-3 playing 4 top 5 teams

Greens1234

I didn't get it that bad. Relegated teams are about to win the league this year I bet.

MKelly27

good game today greens

rampageTG

Sorry Tyler. I havent had it much better than you. Played a lot of top d2 teams in my league with nearly 300 overall and mine ain't even 100

On Monday at a sold out Arena at Harbor Yard, The Bridgeport Sound Tigers took on a 2-1 Greens team looking to stay hot.

The First period was uneventful until the last 2 minutes when Kurt Pringle scored unassisted to give Greens a 1-0 lead. They would double down on that lead 4 minutes into the second period through defenseman Sebastijan Blažić . Heads were down in Bridgeport for only a few minutes though as team leading scorer Andrew Green scored on an assist by fellow Canadian Dillan Charbonneau .

With the Bleeding stopped the Tigers then went on the offensive. Green would tie the game up with less than 5 minutes remaining in the middle frame, before #37 Hampus Björklund scored with just 53 seconds to go in the period to give Bridgeport it's first lead of the game.

Bridgeport would not let that lead slip and with 7 minutes left Kirill Novikov would ice the game with his second goal of the season.

Juhani Ojanen got the start in net for Bridgeport and stopped 18 of 20 shots on his way to his 3rd win of the season.

3 Stars:

3) Gerhard Falk 41 Saves on 45 Shots
2) Hampus Björklund 1 Goal (1)
1) Andrew Green 2 Goals (7)
