An easier way to get your point across is to quote from the guide:

"On the other hand, the efficiency of fast breaks is reduced when you use the 6-0 defensive setup."

hahaha. the guide to me is very... fuzzy.

For instance... it says stuff like "all players need AGR, but not too much, but definitely a lot for pivots, but not too much." Or stuff like, "there's some tactics that work better against some tactics, but others don't work as well against some things, sometimes."

In my opinion, it's just nice when things are supported with statistical evidence.

So, sure the guide already says it... But actually seeing that a team averages X more goals against and scores Y less goals for using Z strategy is more interesting and real information that people can use.

That's great, but this type of data analysis without proper normalization can be well... fuzzy. I'm a big stats and probability person, but I'm not going to build a proper model when the guide already confirms the hypothesis (in this case). Also, for whatever reason, I couldn't find the quotes you posted from the guide in the guide.

I appreciate your desire to use statistics to evaluate the game and I do my own probalistic and statistical analysis as well.

To rephrase my introductory sentence, there are more explanatory variables than a team's defensive and offensive play tactics. Things like the relative strengths of the players on each team, where the match is played, the opponent's defensive and offensive play tactics and the match importance and shooting preference of both teams will impact the results you're seeing as well. If you're not normalizing for those, then you're either doing a quick, high-level analysis which, in my opinion, carries little weight, but could potentially provide some directional insight (similar to what the guide provides) or assuming that the other variables are insignificant.

yep... I agree. Like I said when I did it... it was just a quick and dirty look at things. And I very much agree that there are other factors.

That being said, my data summary does raise some interesting questions (that someone more interested/motivated than I could investigate further). I had always thought that the guide meant that playing with a 6-0 would just reduce the effectiveness of fast breaks... wouldn't it be interesting if it also has a positive correlation with increased turnovers (and by association, increased SOGA)?

It would be interesting to have JACK have 90% of the reps on saturday.... His experience alone is better, but everything else seems to be similar to pascale- Jacks FIP is higher which I am sure helps a tad.

Whatever happens you have done a good job-

i set for 45 min/ 15 min or 3 goals. so if jack does well, he plays more. if he sucks, pascale is given equal opportunity to shine. and that is why pascale plyed more against hungary: he was better goalie

I agree with this strategy completely. Why play a goalie who's having a bad day more? Makes no sense if you're actually trying to win.

Sure, the goal is to build the team long term, and maybe Jack is part of that picture while Pascale is not... but winning in the present time is also important.

Maybe you were being sarcastic or something lol... because honestly runny, I can't imagine that FiP does anything for goalies. If it did, 1) the guide would say so, and 2) people would train FiP for goalies (which they don't).

That's like saying that training GOA for defensive field players is a good thing. I can't imagine people doing that either.

Oh... woops. That might have been my doing. Every now and then I throw players up on the requested list in bulls' database that may not have been scouted yet (because they're in foreign leagues). I figured that it was better than having nobody in the queue.

Speaking of which... will we ever get a bulk player upload feature? Would be very handy as the seasons go on for updating the database.
