Canada vs USA tomorrow in a National team friendly game and my first since becoming our new GM. Running 4 lines and looking to build some chemistry

I've got him on my watch list. However, my top five 20 year old LW's are all 1255+ and my RW's are 1329+. I think he falls a bit short. Looking for 19 year olds in his overall range.
Happy to see we won 10-3. But extremely concerned that our default roster and default tactics weren't used and we burned a lot of energy playing on VH. Currently trying to figure out what went wrong.
Checked everything and can't find the error. Looks like an old tactic fired but it shouldn't have. Any ideas how I can ensure this doesn't happen again during our next friendly?
Planning section perhaps? Could have been an "exception" if not.
Perhaps the issue was that we had a lot of guys who were in training camp - does that make them ineligible for a NT game?
