Like canucks said though, most parking lots aren't owned by the arena.
The larger parking lot is going to draw more fans to the game, since parking will be easier/cheaper.
Supply and demand of parking means more spots costs less money.
With our small arenas now, we won't notice adding extra parking, but it will become more important later.

This is exactly what I was coming here to write! Hopefully it gets implemented.
It's probably been suggested before... but to make the game 1) more realistic and 2) less based on ratio-only built players, I was wondering if a player could use all of his attributes, including the goaltending one.
Goaltending for a skater increase the shot-blocking skill.
Defense... well it's obvious. Possibility to have checkers. No use for a goalie.
Attack, same thing. Possibility to build an offensive-D.
Shot, passing, tech don't need to change.
Agg. for goaltenders would be the puck-tracking skill and can slightly increase the % of successful desperation saves.
In soccer, according to the guides, every players use a little of every skills (excluding the goalie attributes). I don't know how hard it would be to implement this in hockey, but that would give the game a whole new world of tactics.

As much as I would love this, I don't think it will happen.
This would require a complete overhaul of the current game engine.

Is that such a bad idea?
I've seen ads for the new user interface. I don't care. I've learned to navigate this site as well as the back of my own hand.
DavidBengale's suggestions make for more intricate players and a more imaginative game. Style points count. Consider:
Goalie Aggression:
Ron Hextall was an aggressive goalie, attacking shooters to cut off the angle (mix with technique), executing poke checks and breaking up passes (or failing to execute due to poor goaltending or technique), and, of course, taking a few extra slashing and roughing penalties. Dominek Hasek was aggressive. So is Tim Thomas. Hit a reply if you can think of another!
Goalie Shooting:
Clearing dump-ins out, starting offensives the other way (mixed with offensive awareness skills). Think: Marty Brodeur, Marty Turco, Marty McFly! Empty-netters!?! Bonus popularity!
Skater Goaltending:
Goaltending: the art of blocking shots destined to reach the net - www.youtube.com/watch?v=j... ? A skater who is a poor shot blocker could be more susceptible to injuries. Remembers Patrick Thoreson www.youtube.com/watch?v=o... ? And Canucks fans... I give you, Sami Salo: www.youtube.com/watch?v=J... . WARNING: RUPTURED TESTICLES!
Speaking of rupturing testicles, wouldn't that be fun to read about? The first few times you watch an in-game cast where your player is down and getting up slowly, you cringe - what if he actually was injured? I'll watch the replay if I don't catch the live game-cast (read: MORE REASONS TO LOGIN).
It would also be good to give the user some time to make line up decisions with the extra hours of notice.
To those who have taken the time to read, I hope you've enjoyed my proposals.
BONUS GROIN SHOT: www.youtube.com/watch?v=U... !

Yes I'm on your side. A re-haul of the hockey game engine is needed... it's far too primitive. I'll mention this in the suggestions and have brought it up for some time but their efforts are currently focused on bringing new sports to the table when it comes to major tasks. I'm all for as intricate of players-system setup as can be.
I never said it was a bad idea. I said it was a good idea but unlikely.
I'd love to be able to make a custom team based on speed/strength, size, speed, defense, etc.

I was wondering if it would be possible to get news messages about followed players who are about to become RFA/UFA? Right now we can only see that a player is going to become a free agent once their contract expires (and even that is only on the player's individual page), but that could be anywhere from 0 to over 300 days.
Instead of having to check on the players every day, it would be much easier to just get a message that read something like, "A player you are following is about to become a restricted free agent. In 5 days, Player X will become an RFA."

There is that isn't there... Warning about expiration of player's contract?
Following players of another team. Ones you want to poach upon free agency.
Is that what he was talking about or suggesting?
He wants to get a News Feed notice when a player being watched is close to hitting Free Agency.
Okay I didn't get that from what he said. That's a good idea. I've suggested a "track players" feature before, perhaps will re-tool the wording

Perhaps even a column in the Followed Players page that says "Days Until Free Agency"
