I believe by "outsider" vlady meant "underdog"
Luongo can't even finish most games he starts these days. LOL
Agreed. Using low-importance is now longer a given... teams will need to play smart and manage their team better.
I believe my comparison to Germany is much closer than yours. Once again, look at the shot count and the offensive zone time. Does it look to you like a game between Poland and Russia? I don't think so.
some food for thought
hockey365.celeonet.fr/hoc...
Korean goalie stopped 140 shots in 2 games and allowed only 1 goal. Korea was brutally outplayed, but managed to get 2 ties.

thats the next problem, you BELIEVE that your comparisons are closer. Sorry Vlady, but our conversations( we had a lot) where you compare the NHL with PPM or some other historic games with PPM games shows me that you arent really good at that point
After this two great World Championships, as a german hockey fan, i would be insulted by the comparison with this 3-class Top Gun-Team

You forget the quality of the shots. A red line slap shot isnt so dangerous like a tip in in front of the net. But thats something we cant see on PPM
if you remember we spoke about SHUTOUTS. in first game he hasnt one. In second i dont see the shot statistic and again, quality......
No food for thought.

im sorry but do you see these Korean games? if not dont make your statements on statstics. like Bure said - maybe buncho of shots was just from blue line or even center...
in one game there were 71 shots and in the other one 70. I didnt see these games, but I remember when they were played. I seriously doubt those were easy saves because there was a big difference between Japan and Korea. You dont get 70 shots unless you really dominate. Japan played top division at that time (although they didnt belong there) and Korea played Div II.
Now ask yourself this question. How many players from the German 2011 WC team would have made the Russian roster for 2011 WC? How many of them would even be considered as an option?

1. About the Japan game i dont want to talk, because we talked about SHUTOUTS. He got 1 Goal.
2. You didnt see the other game. How do you know how many shots came from the blue line? how often the goalie had clear view as the shots were released? how many shots looked more like a "lost pass" than a shot? How many shots came from a bad angle?
The shot statistic says a lot about a game but not everything and in some games it says nothing it even shows the opposite.
First of all we didnt talk about the whole 2011 WC! Dont expand this discussion.
I did not talk about the individual qualities of german or russian players as whole. I just analyzed this one game not more.
The russians didnt show 50-60% of their quality in that game. Kovalchuk,Nabokov,Frolov.... didnt realized that the WC has already begun! Some other players thought the have to do magic in front of the net instead of shooting.
And now ask you what is the use of high quality players if they play like in their free time against some friends?
Not some players from Germany would made it to the Russian roster in this game, whole lines would do it!

70 saves vs. 30 saves. 1 goal vs shutout. 70 is more impressive.
BTW, I've played with some Japanese guys FROM Japan who were better than 15 YO AAA players from Toronto (who in turn are better than Korea's national team) who aren't good enough to even be considered for Japan's national team.

In match statistics, why do we have "TIME ON ICE DISTRIBUTION" per period when we cannot influence on it per period but on the whole game,.
