I hear ya. I try and make agreements in footy to play low since CL and league are killing my energy. I'm still doing alright but low + road really doesn't work out that great that often.
In the guide it says the quality of a free kick depends on the free kick taker's shooting and technique and for a penalty shooting and to a lesser degree technique.
Last league match a 167 GV player scored both a free kick and a penalty against my 21 star goalie. Out of curiosity I send an email to my opponent to ask for the player's shooting and technique skill. His answer: 16 shooting and 15 technique.
Now, I know there's random (chance) and I know these things happen in a game, but twice in one game? I mean.. what would the chances be of him scoring even once? 1%? That would be my guess when seeing the stats.
Things like this, combined with my 40 shooting, 25 technique, 50 attack player only scoring 6 out of 41! on target shots (plus 38 off target), make me wonder why i even bother training shooting..

Oh, and my own free kick taker has 30 shooting and 30 technique and only manages to get 3 out of 32 shots at goal. I mean.. where's the logic in that?
What are your views on the effectiveness of your free kick taker?

Free kick taker isn't as effective as I would like (or thought)... I know that free kick goals have been lessened with an update at the start of this season by the PPM staff.
But...
Have you actually thought about how successful any free kick taker is, in real life?
When I think about it, their % would not be that high.. probably averaging very low, 1/2/3% of free kicks taken. This is a rough number off the top of my head, but I cannot imagine it would be any higher than that number.
The player who scored against you might not have scored a free kick in the last 10 games, and as they say in real life, "He was due one". It just so happened to be against your team.
As for the penalty situation, well I think in real life most penalties are scored, again from the top of my head at the very least 90%. I dont see anything wrong with the player scoring the penalty at all, therefore you should't include it in the problem you have.
Put it down as just one of those things!
Plenty before you have, and plenty after you will do so also!

actually the average success rate on the penalties is about 80% in real life football and we are close to that here (players will be improving because they will hit the net more often). Even a really bad player can score from a penalty more often than not.
"players will be improving because they will hit the net more often"
Are you saying here that players have some sort of invisible form? That if they miss a lot, they will get into a negative spiral and have more difficulty to score in future matches?
Or only that the opposite is true? That scoring a goal also depends on whether the player has scored (a lot) in past games? That he gets a positive boost if he's feeling confident because of his goals in past games?

no, you misunderstood. What I meant to say, is that the success rate on penalties will be improving because players' attributes will be improving and that means they will hit the net more often. Right now they miss the net quite often because they have poor shooting and technique. As they improve, their shooting percentage should go up too.
I noticed that are some players prone to foul (they make a lot of fouls). Why is that? Better yet, where can we see, that player will conflict more fouls? Or is it just my imagination?
yes, but imagine this
player A has shooting 20 and hits the net 70% of times
player B has shooting 40 and hits the net 80% of times
They are both up against a goalkeeper comparable to them.
Goalkeeper A has 50% to make a save on player A if player A hits the net
Goalkeeper B has 50% to make a save on player B if player B hits the net
Player A will score on 35% of his shots
Player B will score on 40% of his shots

if it is like that? But it can also be that its goalkeepers skills against shooters skills?
So is this the actual formula for penalties? Interesting...?
I mean that its only miss ot goal and its only compared from shooter against goalie? no matter what it explains in live...
