I would like to buy a bicycle for casual use (mostly on road but some on gravel road)
The bicycle shops I am close by carry the following brands Norco, Haro, Opus and Kona.
Does anyone knows any of this brands?
Shall I go to another city to get a Trek?
Thanks for your help

I would get a hybrid bicycle. Hybrids are a mix between a mountain bike and road bike. Try to get one with 700c tires(Skinnier thin). Norco and Trek are both pretty good brands for a hybrid bike. You can get a nice one for probably 400$ of even cheaper if you look used.
I got a hybrid Trek a few years back because I ride on both gravel and road. I have to say I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I have used it to ride 40k+ trips and didn't have a problem at all. Very durable and well worth the money (bought it new for $700).
I went to the store and I saw the following bikes:
Norco Vermount $420
Norco Yorkville $299
Norco Plateau $329
Norco Citadel $449
All are 2010-09 models, then are ~100$ cheaper than regular price.

I test a Kona Dew Plus 2010 and I am going to go for it (although is a little more expensive that what I expected $550)
that is a nice bike. My only concern with Trek was that the dealer was too far for me.
