Honestly... for the underdogs, who might win another game or two, there's not much to lose now by burning a bit of energy. That's what makes them dangerous.
It's only the people that want to "go all the way," who are in more competitive leagues, that are worrying about the energy right now.

Who doesnt want to go all the way? 
My goal is to win NC, win regular stage of I.1, and screw PO, there arent any extra bonuses for placing first, just a but more OR, and that nice trophy. I would deffently not want to play Champions league, cause I would probably burn the energy there for the good sake of US, but boy ou boy I would not want to do that. Bleh, im not going to check over if what I wrote makes sense.

... um. Probably 90% of the teams in division III don't have the players/rosters to make it to the even the final 16 in the National Cup. I'd imagine that most of them are smart enough to realize this.
So the result of that is... they have to weigh how hard to try, and for how long.

Plus there is no home field advantage if you believe the guide.
If there was home field advantage I wouldn't have won last season.
