20M next season (when we should be earning much more than this season) may not be too bad to spend in a player if that alone ensure one stays in D1

It depends on the player. The top players might actually go for $50 million now. $20 million probably gets me a 290 OR player with bad qualities if I'm lucky. The problem is that such a player might still not continue to be worth it 3 season from now. I suppose I might find a bargain and change my mind or change my mind if the general sponsor rises sufficiently.
yeah, but also mean 250OR player will come at bargain price now. and while they are not a difference maker, depending on needed position they can help or at least add depth. Depth will be needed this season

Id take a 291 last day in a nano second, specially if he were a goalie.
No worries he will be taking your team on 4 times next season. 
Nono... I completely agree... I'm just saying that a 291 on day 111 is pretty similar to a 240 or 250 on day 40. I mean I'd still take him (he'd be my 2nd best player lol), but it's just a bummer that it's so late in the season.
