I apologize for the lack of updates on the team. We've been majorly underperforming so far - not due to the players being particularly bad, their chemistry is quite high, and while the tactics may not have been quite on point, they were also not that bad - but probably as a whole because the team's composition is lacking a bit. Our C position is currently very weak, and having a 19yo backup goalie gives you an idea how well that position is filled. Shooting is still a major weak point and it seems managers are still reluctant to work on that, so we don't score a whole lot, either.

An upset vs Switzerland would get us back in the game, but I hardly see that happening.

My apologies for a poor run this season. We could chalk it up to my not having a ton of time to spend adjusting the line-up/researching tactics (which I think Bobby Jay had sent me a spreadsheet of that I never was able to open and I forgot to ask him for the link again xD), so if you guys want me to step down next season I won't really fight it.

Personally, you have my confidence. I know first hand just how much work you put in over the seasons and the amount of knowledge you have in order to bring the best Canadian players, wherever they are in the World.

Preliminary stage, held over 3 games, hardly dictates a tenure. I have had luck so far in my guessing game, but I could easily have been wrong. And I will be wrong soon for sure, as there are just too many games going forward to get them all right.

I have been rather unlucky pretty much the entire time I've been at the helm, though, despite the team being sometimes decent on paper. But I'll admit this has been one of the weakest teams I've had to field so far. Our user base i declining and so is the talent, sadly.

Judging by the numbers alone, I don't even think we can win 2 games of the remaining 3. Switzerland is undefeated and they were playing normal in their previous 2 games. The other 2 teams are toss-up, but so were then first 2 and we got crushed.

On the bright side, I think the handball U19 might be able to go all the way this season?

No one was more shocked at the outcome than I was, especially considering how the tactics played out!!
I took the liberty of doing them again for today. Sometimes, especially at the world cup, I think luck is a bigger factor than brains. Managers don't always follow their previous patterns in the hopes thqt "changing it up" will be good luck!

Definitely luck is in play. A big part of tactics setting is to blur the trail so that others can't figure you out too easy.

Thanks to the statistics gathered by my AGM, Trader Phil, I am able to make more accurate evaluations of the opposing GM's tendencies, but I never know for sure what he will pick. Every game is a different challenge. Knowing your team is also a big part of it. Not all teams play all game styles well.

I always research the tactics used over the last two world cup seasons by teams we are playing, then see how they match up with what they are doing this season. I also check what they did in this season's friendlies to see what they might be "working on". Special teams are easier to predict, probabaly because there are fewer options. I pay particular attention to what tactics beat them in the games they lost.

Wow... the game really doesn't like us this season...

So the only way we make it to the next round now is if we win over turkey, while switzerland loses to Belgium by with a differential of 2 between our game and theirs. Or romania loses to Spain and we get a differential of 6.

So far we've lost all games where we had the edge OR-wise. And won the one we didn't...

If we do make it we'll be bottom feeders, which means we only get 1 extra game.

I'm tempted to just hail-mary the next one and play the reserves. We make it? cool, more exp for the kids. We don't? well we weren't going to anyway, more exp for the kids.
