I didn't know it doesn't apply for elimination rounds. That is good to know.

Hard to believe there would be no HIA for the round robin though. No matter what the official answer is, it has been constantly much harder to win away from home and much easier at home. Samples size may not quite be big enough on my end to convince others, but it's enough for a very strong doubt.

Despite outplaying and having the tactics advantage we could only manage an OT loss in the SO against Portugal??

Both Slovenia and Russia essentially throw their respective games by playing the entire game on VL????

Wins and advancement in this series are tough enough without battling against easy points and inflated goal differentials.
OK, enough venting!!
Today's game against Switzerland requires at least a win in OT to advance.

Very disappointed that we could not generate at least one win in the qualifying round. We had the overall tactical advantage in almost every period, and somehow could not score. In fact, in the only period in which we did not have the tactical advantage, we scored a short-handed goal, the only one in that period. Go figure! Gift games to other countries are part of the World Cup, and I would do the same thing given that opportunity. We will probably finish 11th overall this season, which will keep us in the top 10 for world ranking, probably 8th or 9th.

Good work. In such short tournaments, luck plays a big part. All you can do is prepare the team as well as you can, and you never failed us there. Good job on again.

Once again, we thahk you all for your support both at the polls, and in the training of your players.
Last season was a very frustrating one. With perhaps our best prepared team in recent years, we had bad luck in the qualifying round and narrowly missed the playoffs.
We will be equally well prepared this season with a few new additions.

I was really hoping we might upset Belarus. Russia gives almost no one a chance. Losses to both of these teams mean that we must beat Spain today to advance. Our aging player base, coupled with the fact that we are not generating top players as fast as other countries, means we are slowly falling behind the top teams with respect to skaters. This is very evident when you compare team strength stats after each game. This is a damn shame considering we have such good goal tending at the moment! All that said, I am confident that we will be advancing after today's game. Once more into the breech.....

Why is it becoming such a struggle for Canada at the World Cup of hockey?
This is the question I have asked myself lately.
The following observation, based on this year's teams may offer some answers.

It is becoming increasingly important to maintain our best training methods and maximize player experience.
A look at the junior teams may give us some indication of what the future holds.

It is undisputable that we have overachieved based on our pool of players.

Let's keep the good results coming as much as we can, but a certain decline is unavoidable eventually.

And of course, those who are left and can develop players need to take pride in doing so in order to maintain our high standards as well as we can.

This year's National Cup looks way to much like my II.4 playoff run! What's balancing out this string of bad luck!? Did I win a lottery somewhere else that I don't know about??
