Hmm, that's odd. Big impact from ranking in season? My OTR is worse than yours.
I'm no expert, but...looking at your HB team I see that you do not have any Managers. Wouldn't having at least two of them help negotiate better contracts?
Looking at everyone's sponsor offers, I'm really glad I bought a manager with 70 marketing. 
I fired them after signing the offers.

I think I may be in the same situation as yours. Finished mid-table and made the playoffs, but there's probably some III teams making more than me right now.
