Be very careful trying to "throw" games.
Playing on less than Normal can adversely affect your future attendance. Playing younger weaker players may result in a letter suggesting both your sponsorships may be reduced next time (I have had two).

True! I have checked the guide, and for football the promotion/relegation match will matter, while the regular season ones won't (for the sponsorship penalties, that is) as far as playing with a reduced lineup. But that's why I would play a promotion match with the regular lineup, for sure!
Whatever you do, don't get discouraged and quit. Just survive until you get relegated, and then keep building your infrastructure and stay down!
While the game is poorly balanced and tends to effectively penalize teams that promote to I.1 but lack the talent and infrastructure to compete, you really don't have a good enough HRE facility or stadium for a bad OTR to significantly affect your sponsors at this point. With the promotion bonus, it might be a net positive. Just don't waste the money on players that will not be able to develop or be competitive in I.1 (even for 10,000, the daily salary alone would be extremely expensive without producing much value).
It would be best to focus exclusively on maxing out the HRE facility and stadium as fast as possible (for the stadium, it's best to upgrade directly to the highest level without intermediate steps).

Quick questions for the collective: I have enough to upgrade a seating section to the highest level, but not full capacity, should I wait and save up or get there and rely on it being cheaper later?
That's what I do without spending all my money. This way I increase capacity and generate more revenue.
