lol I like 4. and though its a good point about equipment, but you can't say that Roy is better because he played in a era where goal tending style/equipment was different.
Roy's first goaltending coach with Montreal used to get pissed at him for going into the Butterfly. He tried to make Roy into a stand-up.
Also, Roy can control the game better than Brodeur can. Roy had a burning passion to win, like no other player I've ever seen.

No. But the main point I was going to make before looking up an article as that Brodeur has long since played behind a team that is purely defensive. Roy on the other hand has played for a bunch of offensive teams. Even just looking at his days in Colorado he had superstars on fwd and nothing overly spectacular on def (sure Borque but he was past his prime) whereas NJ you're hard pressed to name a superstar on forward there prior to the Kovalchuck fiasco. Sure they have some good guys in Parise etc. but they are defense first guys.
totaly true but Brodeur has faced more shots overall and let in fewer goals despite the defensive nature of his team. (for the record I'm completely biased because Roy was really before my time)
All the more reason you should hate Brodeur! As a goalie I appreciate Roy's tenacity and winning mentality. Brodeur just has that vibe like he's god and fuck you all. Brodeur got his break because Daddy was involved with the NHL. Hell, Calgary traded him to NJ so they could draft Trevor Kidd. Haha. That doesn't back my point just a random fact. Brodeur's goaltending style makes me ill. *****Roy popularized and revolutionized goaltending with his butterfly style.***** I do give Brodeur credit where credit is due, puck handling.
Roy couldn't handle the puck worth shit. I cringed every time he left his crease. He did however make some amazing saves after his cough ups (can probably find some on YouTube... Statue of Liberty doesn't count).
Jax45, lots of the shots that Brodie faces are perimeter shots and bad angles, Roy would get shelled.
The best D Roy ever had was Foote, Blake and Bourque... and both Blake and Bourque were offensive Dmen. Footer was the only real shutdown Dman ever to play for Roy (on the Avs).
Hell, as the article Nucks posted says... Roy was a cup with BreezeBy on his team.

how Brodeur got his break is completely irrelevant to his skill level. The Brodeur vibe is exactly what you want on the ice and off the ice I don't really care.
And I think we are ignoring the most important fact here. Roy played for the habs! gross!

Brodeur shots can't be said to be mostly from bad angles, there is no way to show what kind of chances they had to stop.
Roy's youtube saves strike me as lucky desperation saves. its the saves that don't make the highlight real that interest me. I think that they show the quality of a goal tender.

I think we are ignoring the most important part here. You damn youngin's can't appreciate the talent that was Roy.
Roy once got so pissed off with his team not being able to get the puck out of the zone that he did it himself. Then he got a penalty for playing the puck across center ice.

Yeah yeah...
A good goaltender never makes the big saves.
A goalie only needs to make a big save if he is out of position. I get it.

see. Roy was obviously a nut. doesn't know his own role (;
LOL. He was a passionate goalie.
If you watch the Roy highlight video you'll notice a distinct lack of defensive presence.

I will add my 2 cents.... I would much rather have Roy on my team then Marty for the reasons mentioned. Roy had the passion to win no matter what, I still remember when Roy took the puck out of his own zone, what Roy did was game changing, the huge saves, everything he did gave his team huge motivation and he could single handedly turn the game around by doing what Roy did to get his team going. Marty is a great goalie as well helping his team win the close games and not getting scared they are locked in their own zone for most of the game, the thing that makes the biggest diffence were the motivation, and inspiration that Roy brought to his team, not just solid saves. Greatest thing Roy did to make me like him was Montreal.
