I'll be parking the bus for today's match against Firestorm, but I'm afraid that the tactic will fall woefully short. I've resigned myself to preparing myself for the relegation games.

It may work. Although I'm trying to run up the score by playing four forwards, I've never actually yet had much success with this tactic.

Even if you play relegation matches, you should easily stay in II.1 If you hold your current position, you will play [soccer_team=100461]. If the Silly Nannies pass you, then you will play Forward Wisconsin . Both teams are significantly weaker.

You're best bet to run the score up would have been a 3-4-3 with a diamond midfield, a more plausible lineup. But hey try it again on the Typhoon on Sunday, lets see if it works out.

The four forward experiment seems to be a failure. The 3-4-3 sounds like it would work better. Even so, at this point I should get first unless I lose, draw, or win by 8 fewer goals than the STL Saints. I might opt for the 6-3-1 instead.

Alright, I'm going to be honest and not try to cheat out a draw or a win in our final match up. If we both end up running a heavily defensive strategy, I would think the turnout would be more inclined to end in a draw or a very low scoring game. With that being said, it should give me less opportunities to shoot on net but the same would be for you. So unless one of us has some super goal scoring forward or a heavily offensive midfielder our game should end in a draw. If I were in your position I would run a typical 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3, both of which favor a more offensive/balanced setup.

I feel like I just gave up the key to my demise in the final match of the season...

I was just totaling my team history and discovered that the MK Ultras are the Nottingham Forest of II.1, not shabby, rarely in the lower third and mostly upper middle or lower top of the table. Here are the all-time team results in competitive matches:

My best season was 9, when I went 31-3-8 for 96 points and finished fifth. I've only had one losing season, season 5, at 14-13-15, and I finished 14th. I've been fourth in this division once, season 3, and fifth twice, seasons 8 and 9.

Not bad, but I really want to break through and finish top four again one of these days. Anyway, it was interesting and next season I'll have a shot at breaking 300 overall wins and/or 150 losses and/or 100 draws. Obviously I'm not bragging because srsly, who wants to be Nottingham.

Anybody else have a comparison for their team?

I don't have a full history on soccer at the moment, but I know that when I took over my hockey team I was THE lowest OTR in USA. I literally was given the worst team. It was like 60.

Ever since then I've thought its BS that by luck of the draw you can start with vastly different OTR as a new manager. It takes seasons and seasons to make up for that first OTR deficit, by no fault of your own. All new managers should start level.

Mini rant

A player from my sports academy hit 1,000 OR for the first time.

Congrats! My highest is only a 752, so I have a little over two seasons before I will have a 1,000.

That makes me feel bad because I have 4 players from my academy who are over 1k OR and I still lost 1st place to you this season on goal differential.

With that said, congratulations. I hope you represent II.1 well next season in the first division. I'll try to join you up there but it's going to be hard.

Last season I failed miserably. This season though my players have about 20 pts more energy than the same time last season. (My lowest energy guy is 80, last season I was in the low 60s.)

Thanks! It's great to promote into I.1. I never thought I would make it back in season 5 - I guess that I just needed to wait until all of the better teams quit.

You started one and a half seasons before me; I didn't promote from III.1 until the end of season 4. I pretty much bought most of my team, except for that one player (though I finally have a lot of promising American prospects in my system).

You should easily promote. [soccer_team=38370] seems to be about as strong as the average team in II.1. This also means that first and second should officially be up for grabs. Anyone with at least 70 OR probably has a chance next year.

My players are still in the mid 70's for energy this season.

Firestorm should be one of one to three teams that started after season one (La Banda Roja and the Nome Icebergs could be the other two if they promote). Firestorm should also be among the two to six teams that most recently promoted to tier II (The Fakeballers as of season 5, possibly Smart People, Resovia, and the Nome Icebergs as of season 5, and possibly La Banda Roja as of season 6). Firestorm (along with the Montana Miners and possibly the STL Saints) will also be representing the best tier III league - III.1.

I will probably be lucky to avoid relegation next year. Even so, I might consider selling some of my older players who are likely to soon be surpassed. That probably includes Mojsky, who has been one of the most successful strikers in league II.1 history.

This has been a fun league to play in, even as half the teams that were originally part of the league have disappeared. Good luck to everyone next year!

70 OR won't cut it next year here. Cheetahs, MK, Munchers and my Rowdies at minimum will make sure of that, I feel.
