Is this game pretty much dead? I played back in 2014 and many players were dropping then.. is it worth it to even invest time in to this again?
It hasn't been updated in years and is not under active development, so it's the same game as when you left with a few less US teams. It does pay for itself though, so the servers won't be shut off anytime soon.
You just need the right mindset to enjoy it. It's the opposite of typical (mobile) games - instead of putting in large amounts of time over a few days or weeks to see progress, you put in a little time over many months to years to see progress (15-30 mins on most days takes care of all four of my teams). If you're the patient type who likes to gradually work toward a goal, then you might just find yourself still here after 8 years, like me.

I vaguely recall something about a feature where you could spend credits to get back your old team. I don't know if it was implemented or, if it was implemented, if the feature has been retained. It's something you might want to look into though - just look for your old team by going to the standings for past seasons. I can't guarantee that you'll be able to do this - I think you probably won't - but perhaps there's a chance.
If you stick with it for a long time (maybe 2-3 years), you should eventually make it to league I.1 and eventually become a playoff team. It's just a matter of maximizing your income and waiting for the better teams to get bored and quit.
I don't know if basketball was around when you were here, but you might consider basketball if you just choose one sport (the sports are largely the same game) because it has a shorter 70 day season instead of a 112 day season, allowing you to re-develop a team faster. It also seems to me that the income is much better in basketball.
The forum isn't really as active as it once was.
