I've noticed (and not just because I've decided to build an all-Canadian team) that there are a lot of teams in the Canadian leagues where teams are made up of mostly foreign players. It just seems to me that, even if it'd make the teams weaker, or that teams wanna win faster, taking and playing foreign players more than Canadian is really hindering development of our talent, which directly impacts our NT success.
I think that, well. It'd be somewhat hard to get used to, but maybe say, a 15 player minimum for each team in the league that are from the team's home country?
Or even say, make it so it'd be 50%, and at the player overview screen you'd see how many players that 40% would be. You could be issued a penalty, same as with the maximum player limit, if you go over this, and if you'd not be able to use more than a certain number of foreigners in your lineup for a game. (Just look at the CHL)
I know that's junior, but I really think it'd show how good our players are, and teams, and friendlies would really show the calibre of players and teams coming out of each country.
Just a little thought I had, something for (hopefully) the devs to see, and ponder.

I agree... there isn't enough punishment for having foreign players. That being said, it is hard to implement because of the drastic size difference in player pools in some countries. Consider a small nation like Australia compared to the Czech.
I like the thought... it's hard to implement. I know my SA is crap which is why I buy players. If there are equal players I always train local. Even if I have a prospect who is miles away from playing and a foreign guy who has as good of Qs and better build but is older I play the local prospect. That's just me though.

Foreigners used to cost more, but people complained because areas with smaller manager pools = less quality players.
Or you know you can let people build their team the way they see fit. Some people play the game with different methods. For me I want to build the best team I can. I don't care if they come from my own Academy or Antarctica as long as it help my team progress.
I have pulled maybe 6 decent players since I started playing. Hell, I've never pulled a goalie higher than 2 1/2 stars yet. If I was handcuffed to 15 minimum I would probably still be sitting in league 4 or not even playing still.
The development of Canadian players for the National team is a non-issue. If I have an awesome player from my academy I will keep him and train him. If he catches my main lines then he gets to play. At the very least I will toss him on for some friendly games to raise chemistry and such.
If you want to use all Canadians on your team more power to you, but not everyone started in season 1 or have had decent pulls on a consistent basis.

Problem is ... if the game was done from this point at the start, I wouldn't mind. The problem is that some countries are getting better player just because there is more people playing the game.
I would like a rule like 4-5 foreigners max (like the rule where you can have a maximum of veteran players)... but that wouldn't help at all since we would be demolished on the international level.
Anyway, our NT player pool only comes from Division 1, and when you are there... 90% of all teams are exclusively pack with Canadians players.

If they were going to implement a rule like this they would have to allow for direct trading just so that people can fill all their positions with adequate players, otherwise people could get screwed by not pulling a goalie.
I think it's certainly a good idea about having a max. # of foreigners, but tbh, for people like me, who are relatively new to this game, it's extremely hard to buy domestic players. Therefore it's harder to improve the team without buying foreigners. For ex, last season, I won the league IV with no Canadians on the roster.
The total # of Canadian players on the market is a only a tiny fraction out of all the foreigners out there, and I guess there are more to choose from.. That's just my thought.
What I would love to see is the implementation of trading!

Trading would be fun, but it would be hard to monitor I think, and teams could get screwed, and what is a fair trade? Could you trade real money for players? Add PPM money into the trade? It would be fun, but buying and selling players is almost like trading I think.
I also think it would be hard to set a minumum numberof imports, as there are very few Canadians, and I don't get enough decent pulls to create a home grown team yet. (one I hope to one day have). To create the NT we only need the elite of the elite players, and for the most part, I think everyone keeps those pulls from the academy. Or teams that are starting out try selling them to teams with good facilities so they train better and the new teams can gain some facilities.

I used to only have Canadian players too but I noticed I'm beginning to fall behind because 1) my SA produces nothing and 2) there are no good Canadian prospects put on the market. Just started to buy some foreign players a couple of days to try to catch up to people who've been buying them since the beginning. Wanted to have an all-Canadian team, but it's basically impossible to do that and stay competitive. Sad, but true.
Rather than set a hard cap on players, I recommend a salary difference.
Your nationality = 100% salary.
Foreign player = 110% salary.
Your drafted player = 90% salary (hometown discount).
Something like that would be OK in my books.

I've wished they would implement trading, being from Canada, and it's a part of our game. But, I guess transfers and buying players in that manner is part of theres, and when it comes to the issue of monitoring trades, that'd be hard.
Although, maybe if you had to put the deal by a PPM mod, someone who's job would be to only make sure they were fair trades, then it might work. If they then came up with a generic formula for a "fair trade" such as like, if I wanted to offer a 200-100-100 player for a 150-100-100 player, it would have to be compensated with another player, or cash, to equal the 200-100-100 player.
Maybe if players could be rated inside the system, and not made public, but only for trading purposes. They rate teams for OTS, and can probably easily rate individual players based on that, so if you had a player that was rated say, 10 stars, you'd have to offer a player 10 stars, or a few that equaled 10. Cash could be used to compensate, with a certain amount equaling the levels of stars.
(Ex. 5 stars - 100 000, 10 1 000 000, etc.)
Then all that's left is to compare the qualities, and inside PPM, this could be done by using the avg. quality (I know it's not that accurate, but it's all they have).
It'd be more of a bartering system, I guess, but that's really what trades come down to, when you think of it.
Expand upon this if anyone has ideas, or wants to voice their opinions about it.
