The internet is a wonderful tool for self-learning. That's how I've learned most of what I know! Besides the mission specifics. When I give talks to kids etc. it's all self-taught. U Guelph may have the flagship Canadian space endeavour right now but we just canned our geology program and there isn't even an astronomy course science majors can take for credit.
Let me know if you come across anything cool on some wiki/google/youtube tangents!

How a guy from UGuelph can work on mars rover ? Are you doctor in geology ? What is the link between you and Nasa ?
I don't think there is anyone in the University I work for who is even close to know someone at Nasa...

My supervisor runs the instrument. I'm a graduate student and somehow convinced him to include me

I've downloaded 4 for the flight home. That'll kill 25% of my flight!

wimp is my goto place for quality vids, they only have 4-5 a day but always nice ones. But usually for TED stuff I go directly on the TED website.
greub, what's your knowledge background? You have a science degree or just a science/learning hobbyist?
I went 2 years at the university studying mathematics mainly but got no diploma from it. My problem was with physics. Never understood quantum physics but had to know the basics to continue doing maths... The education system in France is a nigthmare for people like me who love maths but hate physics, you can't study one without having to study the other

Wow, how unfortunate. If it's any consolation I hate quantum as well. You should have questioned the professor if he/she knew quantum by quoting Richard Feynman: "If you think you understand quantum mechanics, you don't understand quantum mechanics."
And because you don't, you're actually better at it than the prof! Instant pass! Huzzah!

I was also crap at any other sorts of physics
. The notation system was on 20 points. To pass you needed the average of 10 during 3-4 exams throughout the year and disciplines. First year I had 18.5 in maths and 2.8 in physics (thermodynamics and quantum) and 10 in chemistry, the following year my maths wasn't as good and I was still really crap at physics
But anyway simple physics is fun once you don't try to understand it thoroughly.

I don't know if any of you like looking at the stars, but the Google Sky Map app for smart phone is really nice. Just point your phone to the sky and it will tell you the name of the stars and planets you are seeing regardless of your position on the globe and the time of year.
So now that you know the name of the constellations by heart, you will be able to impress that girl. You know the one you've secretly longed for

Good to know! I don't have a smart phone so that won't work for me
.
You should check out eyes.nasa.gov/index.html ... it's a 3D historical representation of all missions and spacecraft and I think a bit into the future too.

NASA PR on Curiosity coming on Tuesday. With ChemMin fed a few days ago and SAM also in the works from a science perspective the next few PRs will be pretty interesting...
