most of the discussion around shooting involves its relationship to tech. Most people I read believe that higher tech equals better shooting and some people try and keep them 1:1.

They are probably right but personally i train shooting in relation to the main atty (70-90%) and the persons own quality. If a guys shooting quality is low I don't bother and train up passing instead. If a player can neither shoot nor pass he is worthless to me. But thats just how I do it.

Is what normal? It looks like a great game!

So for my example it will be:

Offense 80 - Passing 60 - technique 40 - shooting 40

or like you did:
Offense 80 - Passing 60 - technique 40 - shooting 70%-90% of offense?

Am I wrong or did I understood this okay.

The penalty shootout. I don't know much about hockey, that's why I ask.

Other than it being really long... yep, looks fine to me. Both teams have GREAT goalies, so you have to expect a few misses in that case.

you got it. My training philosophy changes all the time and I imagine by the time I have an 80 primary player it will change again, but this is what a guy on my team would probably look like:

Offense 50 - Passing 40 - Tech 35- Shooting 45

now I am definitely in the minority on that as a quick look at many teams rating show that they train shooting lighter and they still are very successful. Personally, at the moment, I am testing the theory of training shooting higher, so like i said thats just me. This first player in your example is more like what i think most people are doing and is probably a better player. I just like to be different.

Higher shooting atty pretty much means a lot more shots on goal. More shots on goal gives your team more scoring opportunities, so IMO, there is no such thing as TOO much shooting.

i was about to post, on the issue of shooting, I havent done an in depth analysis, thats why I mostly talked about what other people say. I definitely believe, from what I've read, that there is a connection between tech and shooting, I just don't train shooting in relation to tech. Honestly shooting is the one atty I just eyeball. My training regement is primary first, then secondaries to ratio, then any tertiary that i feel is needed (like tech for defenseman) then before i send them back to primary I look at shooting and make a decision to train it or not.

It would be interesting to see your analysis. It would also be interesting to look at where people play. Though I have done no study on this, I have felt at times that RW's get more shots. I repeat I have no scientific evidence to back that up, its only what I have felt at times (like when i lose by one goal and my no shoot RW takes 6 shots and misses them all while high shoot LW takes 1 )

I did a bit of tabulation of stats so far this season related to shooting. As I expected it really shows that shooting ability doesn't mean that much. I broke it down by offense/defense and shooting atty. Pretty much all the players have tech a few points over shooting.

To help get a bit of perspective average O for forwards around 65 and average o for defenders is much less....

Upon thinking about this further my conclusion is for forwards shooting atty around 50-60% of O worked best. For defenders it's too hard to say. I think I'm going to do a sample like this for passing to see what the results show.

If anyone else would be generous enough to do a break down like this I'd LOVE to see the results here.
