Hi all,
In the theme of all things Basketball I have been thinking about starting a season by season discussion here on our favourite players here in League 1.
The aim really is to promote the thinking behind the players and why we think they should be considered for our own award. I know the system has a stat based award system but this seems to me to be a little dry and within ourselves we may feel that some players deserve a special mention and a little more recognition.
It will also I hope help out with the training of future stars as we highlight our very own Basketball role models.
Now, what I propose is to keep all of this out in the open and during the last week of the regular season each manager is to cast three votes in this forum.
Top Pick (5 points)
Second Pick (3 Points)
Third Pick(1 Point)
The other consideration here is that you cannot vote for anyone on your own team. You may also add a short note as to why the pick.
Now this doesn't have to be the best player on the 'best' team. Sometimes we play against a team and I know I think sometimes, ' Blimey, that (SF) played really well. Or whoever it may be.
Take last season for Instance. - now I know the Mav's were superb. I would have cast my three votes something like this;
(1) E Sheldon (Hearts) SF- Amazing performer, really turns it on for the Hearts.
(2) V Samaritano (Dallas) C - Undeniable Powerhouse Centre for the champs.
(3) J Walker (Canadiens) C - The heartbeat of the Canadiens.
If you guys are up for it, I'll announce the start of the voting in due course.
Cheers,
Nige

Ok Guys, without further ado I now pronounce the opening of the Season (5) League 1 MVP votes.
The rules for the voting etc are in the above post. Voting will close on Weds 20th May at midnight. That's the midnight between the weds 20th and the thurs 21st. You can cast your votes at anytime this week in this forum and the official results will be announced on thurs 21st May!
Right then, as I'm here and doing this these are my votes for the season.
I would say here that my views are definitely swayed by the amount of times I played a team this season and I was driven to make a note of the opposing player(s) that gave me and my team the most hardship !!
Ok, My Three nominees and 'notables' are:
(1st) Leon Fowell - Whitefall Dragons - Outstanding SG. Great season. Hits the medium range shots with uncanny accuracy.
(2nd) Henry Shah - C.I Seagulls. 'Never Say Die' Centre, a Rock in the Seagulls Line-up. Always seemed to get that vital rebound Great Season!
(3rd) Daniel Slawinski - BK Lopini. Time and again I felt that my whole team was playing against this one guy. Great season and a top Centre for sure !
Notables:
Lorus Sid, Tiberius Hebel, Noel Read, Aaron Salako, Ted Clegg, Vilfrīds Mellužs
Cheers guys, now it's over to you !

This is harder than it looks! I've picked my first two nominations but there are probably another five I'd like to include in the third spot.
Hi there, I think it's quite nice to write out a set of notables. Even if guys don't see their guys voted, I think it's a nice touch to have some mentions thrown in as well. Thanks for taking part Jim, Voting closes in two days !

Just adding here, that the winning player will have the right to bear the nickname;
MVP s5
or similar, it will cost a credit to do so and I'd send that along if needed. Ok, thanks !

OK Folks, here are my choices:
(1) Ellis Sheldon (SF) - Hearts. Outstanding all-rounder who always contributes in every column on the scoresheet. He was also effectively the game-winner in both the NC semi-final and final - both games were won by a margin of one or two points, and Sheldon was the man who scored them.
(2) Bradley Wilkinson (PF) - Cannon Fodder. He gets the rebounds, and he also gets the points. A tough forward to play against.
(3) Aaron Salako (PG) Glasgow Gladiators - Sometimes Assists are undervalued as a measure of a player's contribution, but when you're playing the Gladiators, Salako is always the guy setting up the offense.
Honourable Mentions:
Gustav Eggli (SG - Dallas Mavericks)
Adam Seddon (SF - CI Seagulls)
Jack Walker (C - Lincoln Canadiens)

Sheldon made me cry at least once this season. I hope to chuck in my tuppence before the deadline
My choices are
1- Gustav Eggli - He seems to do it all and have it all on the court. Great player for the Mavs.
2- Daniel Slawinski - Every time this big man is on the court he seems to play good defense and causes problems on offense.
3- Leon Fowell: A really good sharpshooter SG, but check out his stats - something like 6th in 3pt FG total and with a high shot %age in half as many minutes as those above him. Phenomenal.
Honourable mentions
Vilfred Melluzs(Fodder), Sheldon (Hearts), Samaritano (Mavs), Prokas (Blue Jays), Kimble (Oilers)
Although many of these players have won games against my Gulls with buzzerbeaters (when do we get any?!) the other three just stood out more for their overall performances and contributions to their teams.
Surprised Prokas not been mentioned by any yet? He is very good for the Bluejays

Awesome, I will allow Mr Fowell to have an extra pint before he goes to training camp tomorrow.
Thanks for organising this Nige, it was very interesting to follow.
