Does anybody have any idea how the team of the day is selected?

I have a player who consistently got a rating of 9 in the match reports last season and hardly ever got into the team of the day. On Friday, this player got a match rating of 10 in the match report, but again failed to make the league team of the day - how can this happen? Are the players selected managing to get a higher rating? Or is it based on something else?

Goals and shots seem to matter most. Just rating would be a bad way to do it as it would be the same players every time.

Seems odd that defensive players would be judged by goals and shots ...
