Ok so, for what is in my power, I have looked into Hunter, Druce and Durkin.

Durkin is a potential star with amazing Qs for a defenseman, so I have selected him.

Druce has interesting qualities, altohugh not quite at the level we would need him to be, but I have selected him because he is still an interesting talent and I have enough free spots.

As far as Hunter goes, unless someone disagrees with my evaluation, I feel like I may leave him behind. He is not worth playing on the U18s and won't be in contention for U20s either and his 4/6 CL makes it unlikely he has a very long career. I don't think this player will be a big loss.

Yeah, leave Hunter. An 18yo with less than 1000 OR will typically not make it in the U20, especially not with a 4/6 CL. He's also 0 exp and is shooting is abysmal.

I have the rest of the guys, save Forest Stuart, scouted, so they should be in the database. I have a few updates to make this weekend, tho. It has been since well, new year, since I actually logged my scouting reports xD

Every player who has played, or is playing on either of the two junior teams is already on my scouting/scouted list.
In addition, I check daily for any Canadian players on offshore teams, at all levels, that might be worth a look.

I don't think you've missed any newbies, but I will check my list just in case. You do a great job of finding them, which makes it much easier for the next two levels.

To be honest, I have no credit here. I barely do any scouting. All credit goes to Krokador, for her extensive list, and Trader Phil (my AGM; GM or Edmonton Wellcappers) who also compiles a list. I use both to build my team each season and they both do amazing work. With the two of them, we are unlikely to miss much.

I tip my hat to these two great finders of talent!

Well, I got scared.

Austria played us really tough. Actually, unresponsibly tough. Played 3 lines all game with 43% to his 1st line, 42% to his 2nd line and only 15% to his 3rd. He will not have energy to last the tournament. Which is too bad for us facing him early, because he will be worse against our opponents in the next stage.

Anyway, rant over. We managed to pull off a last-second win 3-2 in shootout. We leave a point on the table, but thanks to Slovakia's loss, we are assured to make it through to the next stage.

In such a short tournament, the past means nothing, and even though we accomplished a lot last 2 seasons, we could still be stuck playing the relegation round if we get unlucky. So let's just say I'm happy to know already that we won't have to.

On to slovakia.

O well, I decided to rest a lot of our best players and use our 2nd goalie to see what he was made of.

Not a great result. Sadly, Austria beat Finland in regulation, which was the worst scenario for us.

I hoped Austria and Finland would go to OT. A Finland OT win would have been the best case scenario for us. It came close, but it wasn't meant to be!

We will reach the next stage with only 2 points. It's not terrible though. Switzerland is in a worse position taking in 0 points. A lot of teams have 3 or 4, so we are within striking distance. We will need to do well against France, Sweden and Switzerland in order to advance.

I am still cautiously optimistic as our loss came in a game where we didn't try as hard as we could have.

Disappointing loss today in a hard-fought game.

I felt we deserved better. For all the good luck we have had last season, events are not turning in our favor so far.

Must win the next two in tough challenges against good countries if we want to continue our tournament.

World Cup play can bring some disappointing results, some of them devastating. Some are even related to the games other teams win/lose.
