To me, it seems good, but slightly double edged also. Obviously, playing 3 lines is problematic for energy conservation, but in the finalsit doesnt matter too much. However, playing very high with only 3 lines may make your players play worse towards the end of the game. I noticed that quite often i would win games late by having more well rested players rather than playing my better but more tired personnel. I guess it mostly depends on the level of depth on your team. In my case though, i often got better performances by playing 4 lines (and adapting mid game if needed) rather than playing all game with reduced lines.

yeah, my thinking too. but with national teams, esp from the BIG nations, the differences between your top 15 and top 20 guys must be pretty small. yet all 6 gm's went 3 lines for all 3 periods. makes me wonder if some people know something i dont...

Whose team has higher OR?
Are there significant differences between lines on your team or his or
between your team and his?
What is the opposing team likely to do in terms of lines and ice time
for each line?
Is it better to come out strong with 3 lines and go to 4 at some point,
or start with 4 and come on strong in the 3rd period?
Has he set a pattern that I can take advantage of?
Who will be winning at the end of the first, the second period, and how
will I adjust to each possibility?
Does he do things differently at home than away?
What does this GM do with his regular team?
The questions are almost endless, so it depends how much time you
want to devote to researching the other team.
At the international playoff level, there is usually no obvious
advantage available.
All you can do is study the opposition to find patterns or tendencies

Some things bear repeating.
In reality, I'm in the smoking lounge (garage) where reception is tenuous at best, and often I cannot tell if I've already successfully sent something.

hehe, joking aside, this answer was really good. I am taking notes as to what being a top GM is. I do try to research my opponents trends for important games, but I mostly look only at tactics. Lesson learned, captain!
