Zadeva: Result: Away Vs Chinese Taipei Jan 14

If there was a game that Australia needed to win, this was it.

The lads played spectacular, putting 5 goals passed the Chinese Taipei goaltender, 4 of them from the Billington / Doherty pairing up front.

The decision to play long ball as well as the trap worked perfectly and for most of the game we outplayed the Chinese Taipei team.

Forwards

Doherty and Billington put up 2 goals a piece. Billington, who was named player of the match also picked up an assist in the game. Doherty put more shots on net than Billington however was marred by a yellow card during the game. These 2 guys look to get stronger each game, so will continue to be the go-to-guys.

Midfield

Eric Burke was solid in todays game, picking up a goal and 2 assists. His presense in the midfield cemented our play and his pairing with teammate Dillon Isaacs helped shut down Chinese Taipei in the latter half of the game. Out wide White was solid picking up an assists during his time on pitch. Isaacs, Whelan and Overton performed well during their shifts.

Defense

Corey Beaven is the cement that holds out defense together right now and once again was perfect in todays game. His assist on Billington's 14th minute goal showcased a look at his offensive ability in joining the play up front. Bulger and Pegrum shared time in the midfield beside Beaven and performed well.

Goal

Dispite the win today, our goalies did show a few weaknesses. Hamilton faced 2 shots in the first half and let in 2 goals; one of them off a penalty kick. Charles faced just 1 shot on target that unfortunately beat him. Chinese Taipei were always going to put good shots on net, so i'm not unhappy with the stats in anyway. Charles needed a solid game, and did exactly as i wanted. Next week he'll get the starting job.

Next week I would like to see our defense tighten up a little and help take pressure off the goalies. I will tweak the tactics once again and look to rotate a few players into the lineup who haven't yet had a look-in.
