you know, I was thinking... there's one thing that these PPM games are sorely missing:
THE ABILITY TO TRADE PLAYERS.
Now don't get me wrong... I'm not an ignorant fool. I FULLY understand why the creators are hesitant to allow trading (there's always people that would try to game the system and cheat), but there are several ways to ease these concerns if the system is thoughtfully established. What's more, I think the benefits of allowing trading would greatly enhance the game, and provide another dimension that ppm is really lacking.
Benefits:
1) There's lots of people that REALLY don't like the market. The whole bidding system is a very unreliable, inconsistent, and often frustrating way of bringing players to your team. Unless you have the time to sit and watch the bidding close (basically watch a clock tick), you often lose players that you're bidding on. The selling point of manager-type games such as PPM is so that you DON'T have to be online monitoring things 24-7. Trading would allow people to make modifications to their team in a way that isn't constrained by a ticking clock.
2) Allowing trading opens up interesting tangent possibilities too. One that pops to mind: perhaps teams could have 1 "franchise" player tag. Teams could make 1 player a "franchise" player which automatically gives them the equivalent of a signing bonus each year. But as a consequence, they cannot ever be traded or sold... they can only be dropped/cut or lost to free agency should they decide not to match offers. Granted, this could be added without the addition of trading, but it would just be more realistic with a functional trading system.
3) There's nothing more frustrating (and unrealistic) as getting an amazing young player from the SA in a position you're already very deep in, and then selling him on the open market. That does NOT happen in ANY sport, EVER. It's much more common for 2 teams with the same sort of problem (but with players at differing positions) to swap said players in a situation where they both benefit, allowing them to keep their young guys for the future.
As far as the cons, there's really only the "cheating" point. But here's some easy ways to counter that:
1)
Any time a trade is accepted between two teams, post an automatic notice in the news feeds of every team in BOTH of the trading teams' leagues. Include a very obvious button for other managers to "dispute" the trade if they feel it is unbalanced. Those managers would have some standard time limit (like 3 days or something) to dispute the trade.
Trades that involve even a SINGLE dispute are personally reviewed (and approved/rejected) by the game masters (similar to how disputed auction results are handled).
2)
Make it so that only experienced managers can trade (I'm not talking about this 11 game crap, I'm talking 101 games or even 301 games). This would prevent anyone from establishing a fake team with the sole purpose of trading players around.
No one is going to invest the time of trying to dodge the IP detection for 101 games just to pull off some trades, and if they do have that level of commitment to cheating, they'll likely find other ways of cheating anyways (scripts, hacking, etc.).
It's also an incentive for managers to stick around for the long haul (because lets be honest, larger loan sizes is a WEAK reward for manager loyalty).
... Or ...
3)
I can't believe I'm saying this, but make it a feature that comes with the pro-pack. Most people don't want to pay real world money on two teams just to cheat in a game. Not only that, but this would inspire a lot more people to buy pro-packs... because while it doesn't offer a competitive advantage (you're not paying to win), it is a really really nice feature that I'm sure tons of people would be interested in.

I mean honestly, I don't know about everyone else here, but in my opinion, EVERY team-manager-type game should have the ability to trade players. It's not even remotely realistic otherwise.

If you really want a trade there could be easier way: ppm provides the player pool.
the cost:
1. Credits to generate the pool
2. Players are generated with same age and cl
3. Players are generated with 10% less OR
4. Players are generated with 10% less oq
In short ... to trade you need to pay up front to get to see the available players and they will likely be worth overall than the one bring traded.
no need for review and ppm gets some money

what on earth are you talking about?
even during the snowflake hunt, I don't remember seeing anything about a "player pool?"

There's definitely a certain amount of subjectivity in there, but no moreso than judging whether a certain dollar amount is fair for a player selling on the market right?
I don't know... I can just imagine doing really interesting 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 trades. 1 team has a above average player, but has no depth while another team has lots of depth but no star players, and the two hash out a deal. I just think it would make the whole structure of the game so much more interesting.
A much simpler change that I feel would have a positive effect on the market for most users is to greatly increase the amount of time added by late bidders near the deadline. Right now, any bid made with less than 60 seconds remaining will add another 60 seconds to the deadline timer. What I would much prefer is, instead of 60 seconds, make it 24 hours. Thus, any bid made with less than 24 hours remaining would add another 24 hours to the timer.
This would give everyone who cares about bidding a chance to win and vastly reduces the importance of being available to last-minute bid snipe. Right now, there's just too much importance placed on being able to bid at specific times (which are generally terrible for me). I would much rather see PPM move towards more management simulation and less eBay simulation.

Yeah sure lets give moneybags more time to get every player they want.
yeah... but I can already foresee lots of inherent problems with that setup.
I definitely agree with you that it sucks when most of the market auctions either end in the middle of the night (like 4am EST, which is morning in Europe), or mid day (while people in the US are at work).
But that's why I think adding an alternative to the market would be beneficial. People who still want to buy/sell players for cash would still have the option, but at least it wouldn't be the sole way of externally enhancing your team.

Something similar to the draft they will implement. Like.. generate 5 players and you chose one or none
I would love to know what happened to the loan player idea that has been around since season one of hockey. This would be much less able to cheat the system.
Just use it like this, you can only loan players in your regulaition groups. IE, Div I can only loan down to D II. D II can only loan down to D III 1, 2 and 3 etc etc.
Not the best option I agree, but I am not in any shape or form up for free trading in these games.

The player pool you're talking about currently exists? Or you're suggesting this as a possible option?
I'm confused...

What're your main concerns surrounding free-er trading in ppm? Because i seriously think it would help everyone.
I mean sure, if some of my methods were implemented (trading can only be done after 101 games of experience for instance), it could hurt newer players because there won't be as much available on the market for them to buy (because people have an alternative way of moving players)... but I don't really see this as a bad thing anyways.
Anyone who starts buying players on the market that early is just asking for trouble (because their scouting is no where near good enough yet to determine what they're really getting, and they aren't often experienced enough yet to know what they're doing).

What I mean is like a minor league system if you will. Div I and 2 can loan players to each other. Div 2 and 3 can loan players to each other.
I do not like it because it would not help everyone who plays the game. Unless you can assure me that SA pulls are going to even out? I am not going to pay for ppm until they even up the start of new sports. And since they found they can sell top spots,it is never going to happen.
I feel kind of sick, here I want to give ppm my cash, but I just cannot because of the advantage they gave players in hockey and soccer. And are now selling for handball and basketball.

Just like when you do every week to get your player form the academy. It generates when you click. I think its the only possibility for trade.
a trade between people is very subjective. Would never work. People would complain all of the time and they could have to hire someone just to review the tons of complsaints
