I'm new to the PPM scene and was wondering for any advice/opinions on upgrading arenas.
My concern is that it seems like such a small gain (50 seats usually) for such a huge amount of money. Do people even focus on arenas or do they just get the minimum one and stay with that forever?

Everyone's probably different when it comes to their stadium, but I personally look at ticket sales first before upgrading it. Currently I have the regular 400 seat stadium you start with and since I have been maxing it out at 300$ a ticket I'm upgrading my stadium a little now. I would say your best bet it to look at your ticket sales and ticket pricing before upgrading anything. Especially since it's the first season so spending money needlessly on your stadium could set you back in another area.
To answer your last question, you want to build triple floors. Your media sponsorship deal that you receive at the end of the season is also dependent on your stadium capacity.

Underoath10 is right. There is no truly right or wrong answer to the arena versus facilities question. it is something managers handle on a personal preference basis. The ultimate goal is to increase revenue and grow the team.
In my case, I alternate between stands and facilities. First, I maxed the small stand you start with to capacity of 100. Then I set tickets price in the mid range (another point of personal preference, by the way). At that point, i was not selling out games. So, I built facilities several levels. Now, with seating almost always maxing out, I am building stands again. That increase revenue and lets me build better facilities, etc.
There are people that use the market to gain the revenue. Those managers will leave stands alone for a long time because they don't necessarily need that revenue. Once they have enough cash for massive arena upgrades, they make the change.
It is up to you how you grow your team. So, choose wisely, as the saying goes.

I think Arena is the best way to earn money. that is because it is "stable". you will get good sponsor offer and fans will come.
Obviously HR will help, a lot.
Sports Academy is gamble but has the biggest upside. However, without luck you may not earn much from selling players (or preventing from having to spend to upgrade the team). So I prefer focusing on gambling once the foundation is built.
I will be focusing on Arena. But still want to buy one or two more players and expand HR 2 more levels before I will build up the Arena.

I agree that arena ultimately is important and you don't want to neglect it in the long run. However, as others have pointed out, how you handle it is personal preference. The ability to adjust ticket prices, which was introduced with basketball, is a whole new facet that has obviously modified peoples' approach to building arenas.
2 days away from hitting the 2000 capacity mark for the arena. Not sure how high I will be able to get it by the end of the season though. These upgrades take a long time.
Wait until you pop the biggest level! Arena is where the real money is, keep it up!
I'm curious and was hoping people could help me out with this. Now that we are, essentially done, with the regular season I was wondering if people could post:
Arena size
Income from Ticket Sales
Souvenir sales
And a little something about if you did friendlies and what not throughout the season.

Arena size - 2000
Income from Ticket Sales - 10,870,075
Souvenir sales - 333,548
Parts of my arena were under construction for the first half of the season, so I didn't have the full 2000 seats the entire time. I set ticket prices to be as high as I can without losing money on the next level, so it's been at 250 for most of the season. I play friendlies every day but don't have PRO, so ticket prices for friendlies are the same as for league, and I end up losing some potential income there.

size: 1650
Ticket income so far this year: 8,157,875
This includes friendlies and cups which split revenue.
sales: 439
I don't have souvenir shops built, so no real sales to speak of.

Not too bad for having half size arena as most
Arena is still, IMO, the best way to make money but with the ticket pricing feature, it is not "mandatory" to upgrade as quick as it were before.

Arena size: 2350 in a couple days, but I've been building all season. Average has been about 1500-1700 all season.
