As has been said, they have to be 26, and the oldest players I have found are 25, so next season at the earliest.
Don't get your hopes up though, since the first round of free agents are usually terrible because they haven't been able to take advantage of good facilities for their youth training. I don't think we'll see the first genuinely good free agents show up until season 12 - that's when stud 16 year olds pulled in season 2 will be 26 years old.
Looking at handball, that sport is in season 7 with quite a few free agents on the market, but the best two have OR's of 524 and 543. Meanwhile there are a number of 16 year olds already with 500+ OR.
It's going to be awhile until the free agent market is full of good players, as it is in hockey and soccer.

It's not about finding gems at the free market, but filling the holes. If you have one week position in your team, you either want to fill it with some decent veteran or grow a younger prospect which takes years. Right now veterans with 400+ OR are going for high prices, since there are not many people willing to sell them. Free agency will bring the prices down by a lot.
Also it will redistribute a little bit the talent away from "lucky teams". There are still very strong teams in the world who don't have a single youngster, and almost entirely rely on the veterans.

Agreed. I have used FA's to build the top end of my rosters in soccer and hockey so that I had a chance of winning. That way, I could build up the facilities and youth. I am still too reliant on those guys in hockey. But, in soccer I now have very few FA players on the roster.
In short, there is nothing wrong with having FA's on the roster. Just make sure you know why they are there and pay attention to exactly how long you need them.

I can see a possible upside to getting a 450 free agent for under 5M to help in the next season.
It probably won't be a factor for me but I think a number of division IV teams would benefit and enable themselves to be competitive and get promotions to III.

That's a good idea. Only if IV teams get them it wont be much help for NT purposes. But the players might be to old anyway...
Good luck with under 5M. I think they will go a lot higher than that this early in basketball. A lot of managers will want those roster boosts.
well, consider that a lot of these guys are still top tier in their leagues, and younger ones with the same skill levels are going for 20-30M. It would not surprise me to see the vets go for as much as the younger folks if not more--as long as there are teams with the cash for it. And, i'll bet a bunch will use loans to get those roster boosts, too.
As long as that Wednesday payday comes in. There is nothing to stop them.
I was wondering about the height of players. I know that the ranges given in the guide are important, and that height outside the given ranges for each position results in a penalty.
However, has anyone found that height makes a difference otherwise? For example, would a 220 Center play better than a 205 C? OR a 199 SG play better that a 186 SG? (other attributes being equal of course)

How come when I press the scouting history in basketball. I can do it. But then in hockey when I press the scouting history it says you need the Pro pack. I don't have it in either sport.
that little flag-ish icon next to your name means you have pro-pack.
I have the pro pack in soccer. But the scouting history only works in basketball, not hockey. And I don't have the pro pack in either so .....why?
Probably just a bug. You could always report it in the "Reporting Bugs" thread, but since it is a beneficial error, I don't think it matters...
