Does anybody play with wingers (LF/RF) with any success? Are they only effective in a 3-4-3 with a CF? Are forwards with high passing ratings rare? And lastly, do you more rely on your outer midfielders to double as wingers, and can they be moved up into the outer front zones? Just curious of others' experiences.
I play a 4-3-3. I've noticed that playing in this formation produces a TON of offense and as long as I position my mid-field and defense in a staggered way, it really improves my defense as well. Thus, the answer to your question is YES; I play with a LF and RF with a great deal of success (now the caveat is that I have just started to play, but so far so good).
As far as forwards with high passer ratings, I have experienced a good amount of luck with mid-fielders with high passer ratings (I normally put my best passer at the CM spot); however, forwards with high passer ratings I haven't experienced yet, so I really can't comment on that.
3rd question: I don't especially rely on my outter mids to do much wing play, with the 4-3-3 the mid field and the forwards seem to meld nicely and produce goals all over the place.
Actually, for future readers of this thread, I have a forward with a 126 shot rating but a very low offense rating (40). So far, I've started the guy at RF. Would I be advised to start this player over another player with say a 36 shot rating but a 167 offense rating, or not?

@herpy im not sure. but im guessing to go with the shoot. half the time they decide to shoot before they even get close to goal so I say better to have a higher shoot that off. I used to play 5-1-4 with ok success but they seemed to be scoring anyways, so I made a 3-4-3 that has worked well. I had them on the very outer mid-midfield and one center forward-midfielder and a defence-midfield. with this set up I have noticed my defense move up a lot more so I chose def. to work on pass mid on speed or shoot and offense on shoot. this has actually been working really well even though its only been a week ive played 2 and won both on low importance. Even though I usually miss the goal with this setup, they almost never score. And i do rely on my outer mid AND forwards to carry the game, and my defense and back mid to keep pushing them. the one thing i would advise against is having your mids all on the same row of the field, spread them out and never put your center mids a row(or rows) above your wings unless your playing at least 4 in mid and then put one back. just my 2 cents
