I don't know if that would be enough. But something needs to be done to make it harder to stay on top. This game would be so much better if the top teams actually had to manage their teams instead of working the market.

Ideally, I would like the expenses to go up quite a bit and revenues to drop. I'd even like to see some sort of salary cap in play. I know this isnt the European way, but it would help level the playing field a lot. Imagine if a hockey manager had to choose whether to have two lines of superstars or four balanced lines. And each season you would have to think hard about what you want to do with your lines. Do you keep that aging stud winger on line 2, or maybe it's time for your young star in the making to get a shot? A salary cap might also lead to different builds. Because you could have good players on the 4th line, but you build up their secondaries more than normal to keep down their salary. Actual checking lines and such.

Market transfers should be heavily limited. It should be impossible to have maxed out facilities and stadiums. I want you to choose between maxed seats or maxed training. Heck, you might even have to choose between a maxed SA or a maxed HR. Make these decisions harder. Those expenses need to go way up. Ticket revenue needs to drop. Player salaries go way way up. Staff salaries are good. Limit revenues and everyone has a lot more fun.

Instead of all of those interesting choices, we have a market sim.

It could easily be so much more.

I started in III and made it up here to I, hopefully I can stick around, but it is possible (I did start in season one which gave me a smaller gap to close than the current new teams). It is possible though. I also prayed to the SA gods on a regular basis early on and was rewarded with some pretty good pulls and a pretty deep team of mostly home grown players.

It's easy to get to I.1 in hockey. Easy. I went up there, proved I could survive, then went into a full rebuild. Because I know it's pointless to chase the Force. With the rebuild, I get to have a bit of excitement. And there's a glimmer of hope that my players might eventually be good enough to compete with Leggmann. I know this isn't really going to happen, but the hope is there.

Agreed. I started in season 8, and I have a pretty decent chance of getting to I.1 in hockey. But the only way is going through the market, which reinforces your statement about this game being a market sim instead of an actual management game.

I made up to here from Div III and I have never won a division. Yes and I am getting my butt kicked. But if you work at it you can make it.

Yes, but you started from the very first season. For new managers who still have to build facilities and stadium and etc to play against managers that already have all of this is tough and I think part of the reason new managers quit.

The rich just gets richer... That is the reality that we, that started late, have to face and manage. I will still keep with the building plan. May take longer to get there, but eventually i will.

There is a guy in Canada who made it to the top in like 3 seasons. He advanced every season.There is even an article about him. But he spend all the money on players.

Better yet, just hard-cap player and staff sales at 10 per season.

I'd much rather play a sports manager sim than a market/auction house sim with some sport trappings for flavor. Might even convince me to start paying if they'd greatly restrict the market and make the game engine much more intricate.

Unfortunately, the two ways for late-comers to get to the top are heavy market use or patience (waiting for those above you to quit).

Learning the game mechanics only really helps up to a moderate level - beyond that the time is better spent working the market to get players that will simply overpower any minor advantage gained through game engine understanding.

This is exactly true, but it's a fine line for them to deal with. You don't want to make it too easy to climb to the top because at the same time you're making it too hard to stay up there.

For every team to make it up to I, one team has to be relegated. They have to try to find that happy medium.

I was able to overtake some teams that started ahead of me, but it requires being smart with $$$ and facilities and having a solid long term plan. (And getting help early on from those who know the game and can point you in the right direction)

The hard cap on player sales would have to be the beginning. We can't just handicap everyone. That keeps the top teams on the top as much as making it easier on new teams. Fair or not, the top teams need to be punished in some way. It absolutely needs to be harder to stay on top.

Otherwise every sport will end up with a few good teams dominating for years. Not seasons. Years.

Fun memories-- really this game is what you make it. My goal starting out was to dominate my league. WIN my league. In hockey now I am depressed cause its boring... Mainly because of what we are talking about. There is no way I will ever catch up. Instead I purposely relegate to go undefeated to make my self look like I know what I am doing.

Soccer I keep on contemplating on selling out Monroe, novak, bostwick and the other guy for the money. I assume I wont compete as well but I might be able to upgrade something and try and build my young ins who still suck and will always suck.

Divoch is the soccers Legmann. His team will dominate because he figured out the loop holes. I just dont care to try and replicate what he is doing. TOP 5 each season and I am happy.

I already won the NT CUP so what else is there to do? I think I am only one of 4 teams to win it? maybe 5 or 6
