I agree that there are several inconsistencies within the game.
1) Today my offensive tactic was shooting with wings, but my backs took all my shots.
2) I buy a goalie with better attributes, he performs worse than the lower quality goalie.
I've noticed a few others that I cannot remember at the moment.

I question the tactics engine. It seems like 6-0, balanced shooting and balanced defense beats everything.
I think part of the problem is we are all so similar a little luck and your team can beat anyone, doesn't even take much luck haha.
I've noticed some inconsistencies too, especially in today's game:
