I salute your effort for posting in both languages BobbyJay, we might be rivals in the election but I can appreciate that

Now let the voting begin!

Je salue ton effort pour publier dans les 2 langues, même si nous sommes rivaux dans l'élection je peux apprécier cela!

It is not the first time I have posted in both languages.!
See my post of 07.05.2019 08:05:19
See also the post from 24.02.2019 11:10:13 which although not posted in both languages,
does refer to the use of "google translate".
Further, whenever I have conversed by email with any other manager, whenever French was
apparently the preferred language of choice, I have included both translations in the message.
And any election speech of any more than one sentence has been in both languages.
Do not believe everything Paul tells you.
Feel free to check any posts as far back as you can go, and draw your own conclusions.
Also, feel free to check on my performance as any kind of manager on any national team.!

Hey,

I hope you don't mind me posting this to the Senior board chat as well, since a lot of what you say here I have posted there before. I will use this as review.

You mention that the problem in PPM is manager retention. I totally agree. You ask if senior managers reach out to new ones. Well, if you go back through these boards, you will see the same long, endless sermons about how news guys should do this, that and another, but seldom is the cruel reality pointed out. That being, if you are joining NOW, you're fucked. Basically, unless you have the patience of Job.

Do I engage these guys off the chatboards? Absolutely. I offer/accept friendlies, not limiting myself to clubs with maxed out stadiums (you know whose calendars I am encouraging you to visit...). I put them on my friend's list. I tell them the truth about the game but push them to run the national team. That's how I play the game.

Bobby Jay mentions above about "instant gratification". Well...maybe Bobby, you might have got this one right. But either way, it is called gratification, and we all need it, whether it be immediately or relatively soon. And if they don't get it, they go somewhere else for it. You especially should know about gratification. With your track record of clinging on to national team positions, you are THE ONE to speak about (over)gratification.

Open a chat board about the playoffs? Sure, go ahead. They had a pick 'em competition here a bunch of years back. But that's when we had a community. Now we just have a sheriff. And his posse. And a bunch of drifters that come into town, don't see any hint of a future here, and then make their way on in life. The sheriff keeps us safe. And the town is dying. THAT's the problem here...

Your interpretation of what is happening here is completely wrong, Paul. You see this big conspiracy where people are linked and have ulterior motives they all push together. That is not the case.

As long as you cling to those false narratives, any discussion with you will be doomed from the start.

Paul, I started PPM on Mar.28/12, which means I have been playing for 14 real life years
without taking a break, about 46 PPM seasons. I have progressed by observation, research,
and asking questions of those who had been with the game longer than I.
In time, I approached someone to be an assistant in order to gain knowledge of the
national scene. I have been a national team manager about 70 times, of a possible 552 times
in total, in those 14 years, in the four sports available. None of these
positions were attained by appointment, but rather by open election by other PPM
managers, some of them newer managers, who felt I had the necessary qualifications.
You try to paint me as an English feudal lord ruling with a heavy hand to maintain his
holdings. I am offended.!! I have always waited until later in the season to "throw my hat
into the ring", generally when there is no other name , or a foreign manager had entered.
I believe that ALL managers should be from Canada first, if there is someone who wishes to
take a crack at it. I have always been available to assist in any capacity.
The fact that I have stepped up so often to fill vacancies should be to my credit, not a black
mark against me.!! There are 12 general manager spots and 12 assistant manager spots in
total in the four sports. Currently, my name appears in only four (4) of those spots.
Shame on you for your insinuations, half-truths, and opinions that are often directly
contradictory to something you have already said.!!

I am sick of listening to you, as you are of me. If you had a remnant of class you would promote the game and support somebody else, in this case Franc. You shit on the U20 guy because you can't even look directly at the situation that you are largely responsible for. You define hypocrisy in its most basic form.

Samuel, I wasn't talking to you. Notice when I criticize Bobby Jay, you come running off your mouth. Is this the big conspiracy you were referring to Samuel? It seems you come out from under the rock whenever I point the gun at Bobby Jay...

When I have something bad to say about you Samuel, I will use your name. Then you can ride the white horse to save the day.

If it is a conspiracy to be annoyed by your constant attacks on other managers, then I guess I can be guilty of that. It's especially easy since you took out some of your paranoiac claims on me in the past as well.

The elections will soon be over and we can finally stop interacting again until the end of the next season. You can use that time to continue stripping down your team, the one thing you kept saying I was playing the game wrong for having done in the past. Funny how that works. I guess you have a justification for why that strategy is more valid for you than it was for me though.

I stil have the same questions.
What level of energy is required to maintain such a pessimistic outlook day after day?
Why do you not fire your research assistant who provides you with such obviously biased and unsubstantiated information?
What life events has led to the creation of such a bitter, pessimistic, socialist outlook?
Does the sun ever shine in the paulroedb world?
Given that you have every right to determine your own life path, why would you choose to stay on this one?
Why are so many of your posts so diametrically in opposition to each other?
How many milliseconds do you reflect before "turning loose the hounds" of rebuttal?
Would you be able to find any report card, employee evaluation report, or any other accredited documentation where it specifically says "Paul plays well with others"?

Oh Canada, I take it back. Put this guy back in. You can't find this guy's quality behind any pay wall. "May you get what you wish for."

You're such a hypocrite paul. You complain about managers "spitting and shitting" on Zodiac yet you insult and swear at other managers in the same forums. Get off your high horse.

Also it's hilarious you're complaining constantly about Bobby Jay and then begging him to just step down. It's called an election, not share time. You want him to not be in charge? Run against him yourself. But I bet you already know you've made yourself deeply disliked here and would never win an election so you don't bother trying and go for your fun play time in that other U20 team.

If you think there should be term limits, you should complain to Vladdy and the game managers. If Bobby keeps running and winning, that's not his problem. Pretty classless to call someone out for doing something you won't even try to do.

Your obsession with Bobby Jay is pretty weird tbh. Seems like he dominates a lot of your thoughts.

It's also strange you have said repeatedly in these forums that the "real joy" of the game is in running an NT. In hockey there are 3 NT GM positions. So only 3 managers in each country get enjoyment out of the game? If anyone's discouraging new managers it's you by constantly stating that's the only way to enjoy the game. I enjoyed building up my team and eventually making it into 1.1. I don't think claiming NT management is the be all end all, and then constantly complaining when elections don't go how you want does anything to grow the game.

And before you say "I wasn't talking to you", no one cares, you're posting in a public forum. If you can't handle rebuttals to your crazy delusions, don't post here.

Usuário PRO Canadá paulroedb

Hi Boba! You've been quiet. Welcome back. I am going to be polite and use your real name this time, even though it feels like corresponding with something like Bugs Bunny...

I am going to slow down the recording a lot so that you can get a couple right on the test too, okay? You know, everyone gets a trophy, yeah?

"Run against him (Bobby Jay) yourself." Still not clear, aye Boba? Okay Boba, I WANT THE NEW GUYS TO PLAY THE GAME. Write that down Boba.

Usuário PRO Canadá Boba Fett

You can call me Alex if you prefer. Also I haven’t been quiet, I commented earlier in this thread which I guess you ignored, and if someone posts somewhere and I have a thought I usually post.

Why do you only ever pick and choose one point out of multiple to address whenever anyone responds to you?

Also, new guys aren’t always the best option, as shown by the U20 manager this year. A better system would be to have more seasoned managers run and have newer guys assistant manager to see what it’s like / get up to speed quicker so we don’t run into a full season of forfeiture. But that’s just my opinion.

Also, new guys managing their own team ARE playing the game. National management is ONE aspect of the game. Your fanatical devotion on that doesn’t help anything.

I GM’d the senior handball team once, and it was a lot. Maintaining scouting and everything is a lot on top of building and running your own team, especially if you’re in multiple sports. I think that would be overwhelming to new managers / managers without multiple seasons experience. Especially since you’ve called out others scouting practices in this thread.

Handing someone the reigns without any prior experience is probably a recipe to burn someone out of the game rather than inspire more people to stick around.

And why would new people want to GM, when you’re in here ever season screaming about the current managers and saying they suck? Who wants that to happen to them?

Usuário PRO Canadá nkullar

Hi guys, I only ever come to these forums to dig for some insights that would help me as a manager. The past couple of days had me thinking what is going on? Why am I getting such staunch opposition from JetStar? So I decided to browse through this forum, and to my surprise, I saw all the banter being exchanged here.

My first thought on reading what is written on this forum the past few days is Oh My God, what is going on? The insults and innuendo being spewed here are non-productive and distasteful. I do not care to involve myself in any of it, and it's probably not worth it to be a National Team Manager if it means that I’ll be the subject of such dialogue.

I'm going to ask everyone to take it easy, and to cut out the insulting and brash remarks.

There are many things said here that either directly or indirectly pertain to my candidacy as manager, and I honestly do not care to address them here. I also do not intend to come back on this forum in the near future to get into a heated debate about anything. If anyone wants make insulting comments toward me or attack my character as they are doing to others, go right ahead. I will not acknowledge it.

Having said that, there are a couple of things I want to address.

First and foremost, I want to address this issue of managers like myself not using the French language in their communication. JetStar – my opponent in the National Team election – sent me a private message that he was insulted by the fact that I did not address the Francophone speaking people in my presentation, which kind of caught me off guard.
In addressing this concern, I will first point out that I have no prejudices or biases against francophone speaking people. I am of a minority origin, so I know how hurtful prejudice and bias can be, and do not wish to judge anyone on the basis of their language or ethnicity. I respect the importance of French as a foundational language for this country and support all the rights and privileges granted to them. French deserves equal status to English, and a higher status to English in predominantly Francophone speaking regions such as Quebec.

Having said that, I am from BC and come from a Punjabi speaking family. My exposure to the French language only comes from the required curriculum throughout grade school. I am academically proficient in other disciplines, but I struggled in my required French classes, in particular, from grades 9 to 11. Outside of that, my exposure to French has been virtually non-existent throughout my life here in BC. The neighborhood that I grew up in was predominantly Punjabi families like my family. With Punjabi being my mother tongue, I had my struggles with the English language let alone French. My exposure is varyingly limited to English, Punjabi and Hindi. Therefore, my proficiency with French is very rudimentary and limited. I apologize to JetStar and others for not including French in my presentation, but I cannot carry on much of conversation in French, and if I tried, I bet you that would be more insulting. I hope the many francophone speaking managers here are understanding of this imposition, and do not take to heart that I did not include French in the presentation. For if I did have the capability to carry a conversation in French, I would surely have given my presentation in French as well as English.

Second, there seems to be strife from my opponent and his supporters about my association with Bobby Jay as the current Assistant Manager. Unbeknownst to me until now, there is apparently some history and rivalries between Bobby Jay and others. Through my association with Bobby Jay as Assistant Manager, some of this strife, history, rivalries, etc. is being leveraged against me, and perhaps managers are viewing me as a puppet of Bobby Jay.

To this, I will say that while I view Bobby Jay as a close compatriot and a very helpful aid in carrying out my duties as Senior National Team manager, I am my own man, I use my own brain, and I make my own decisions. If there is any negligence in running the Senior National Team under my leadership, I will take full responsibility for it. On that note, I will say that the particulars of when and where Bobby Jay or I handled the day-to-day tasks or how we came to decisions are unimportant because the buck stops with me, not Bobby Jay.

I will also add that though there is currently no merited reason that exists for myself to not carry on the current arrangement with myself as the head and Bobby Jay as the assistant, I will have no qualms to end this arrangement and move forward with a different Assistant Manager or no Assistant Manager if it is in the best interests of the Senior National Team. Having said this, I will emphasize that there is no merited reason under my supervision that even remotely points to Bobby Jay being a detriment to the success of the Senior National Team.

This entire narrative that seems to be taking a life of its own that there are two rival factions – one being the Bobby Jay faction and the other being the paulroedb faction – is entirely untrue from my perspective. I am my own man, and I do not care to take a side in any faction within this community.

Third, I want to comment a bit about the root causes for the demotion to Tier 2 in the prior season. Now I don’t know the particular reasons for the less than stellar results as I was neither Manager nor Assistant Manager in season 48. But it has been suggested that the root cause for the demotion was negligence on the part of both the Manager (SamuelCarrier) or the Assistant (Bobby Jay). I find that very difficult to believe. Having worked with Bobby Jay this season, I do not think there was negligence on his part in the previous year. Rather, the poor results stem from a perfect storm of a combination of factors, with one of them obviously being bad luck.

Outside of luck, the one issue that I have observed in the current season that I think has contributed to a decline in overall performance over the past few seasons is a lack of talent at key positions. One particular position of weakness that I am trying to address is on defense. We are currently very very strong at all 3 forward positions and goalie. But for whatever reason, the quality of defenseman is glaringly weak in comparison. The few current veterans on defense in the Senior Team are either at or near their peak or are currently in a decline phase. Meanwhile the prospects that are currently in the mix are not quite ready to make the jump into the Senior Team. Right-handed defensemen is a particularly sore spot. I scoured both Canadian and foreign rosters for any defenseman, but its very scarce to find suitable replacements that would have the potential to be impact players at the Senior ranks.

This brings me to another point. The quantity of feeder teams within Canada that have the Facilities to develop Senior National Team level players seems to be in decline. Just 2 seasons ago, we lost Qc Nordiques, Montreal Magma and Garfield HC. In prior years, we lost teams like Winnipeg, Warriors, Yardware Snakes and Infidels. Players on these teams that were over 21 years old and on the cusp to making the Senior Team were lost. This has a tremendous impact on the talent pool.

The point that I am trying to make is that whether managers think or don’t think that negligence has contributed to a decline in performance, something also has to be said about whether the decline has something to do in whole or in part to a decline in the talent pool. The forwards are astonishingly good, but the defensemen are astonishingly weak. There is only so much that a National Team Manager can do to bridge a talent gap. Ultimately, to turn this thing around, individual managers will have to do their part in supporting the Senior Team. I’m hoping teams continue to build their facilities and develop Canadian players so we can get back into the top tier. I will do my part to help lift teams up whether I am re-elected or not.

But if our ranks are consumed with insults and mockery, we risk losing more managers, and further decline. If that’s the trajectory, whether the Senior Team Manager is managed by JetStar, me or someone else, the results will be more or less be the same, or maybe even worse.

I’m hoping the derogatory comments stop.

Good post.

I posted the other day asking for a return to civility but it was ignored.

As for defencemen, the game seems to love giving me excellent forwards from the SA, but defencemen are few and far between. I got a great pull 2 seasons ago start of season. They're almost 1000 OR now start of age 17, but they were only 5/6 and dropped to 4/6 at 17. I've had that happen with most of my defence pulls actually. Good Q's and OR but the worst career path.

Even with the hundreds of players I have "unfollowed" I still have 780 seniors, 160 U20, and 180 U19. I'll take a look.!
