i just came across this "season bonus" business, which i understand is a one-time payment to try to ensure the loyalty of the player. is it really necessary to do this with your better players, or will they most likely stay for next season anyway?
Once your players reach 26 years of age, they will become a restricted free agrent and go onto the market. Unlike regular bidding, any interest manager can make one offer. When there are about seven days left on the contract, you will find out the highest bid made for your player. To keep the player, you will need to match the highest bid, however, if you paid season bonuses to the player, you can subtract [5*(number of bonuses) +15] percent from the offer. If you decide not to match the offer, then you will receive half of the money. It's all explained under contracts in the guide.
You should offer it to your best players: the players that you are most likely to keep until and beyond the time they turn 26 and will be likely to attract the highest offers. Keep in mind, that depending on the player's qualities, longetivity, and age, your best players now might not be your best players in five seasons.
Of course, at this point, the majority of the players you start with or buy cheaply aren't very good. You probably won't end up keeping most of them. Even the players with good qualities won't gain experience very well until you improve your facilities, and therefore won't end up as good as a player with bad qualities on a team with high-level facilities; by the time they turn 26, qualities won't really matter any more.

I've only had a about 3 players reach 26 and still be on the team. If you give bonuses, I'd give them to younger players with good quality, who have good CL.
They will have better Q and better training facilities, so that your first players who get to 26 you will probably be wanting to get rid of by then.
