I disagree. My two best pulls in basketball both come from the draft, one in the second round. My best 15-16yos in handball are from the draft. At least one of them was a second rounder, my best was picked 7th.
Nothing from soccer, of course. We've only had the one draft.
Best pick in hockey was a #12.
They didn't increase the number of shit players. They changed how they rate all players. As are now better than they were. Most Bs were useless before. Now I would say quite a lot if them are decent players for most teams. They're not going to help my soccer team because it's awesome. But I happily take em on my hand and basket ball teams. The useless Bs are now Cs.
The only change I would make to the draft is to make everyone 6/6. That would open up the draft pool a whole of a hell lot. No one would be able to scout everyone, so there would be a better chance if getting a better player late.

Yeah, I understand what they did, and don't disagree that it was a needed improvement. My beef with it is that there are so few A's to begin with, and if you're slated to pick from a late position then you have basically wasted a month for nothing. I've never had a quality pull from the draft, and when i have found an A player i have always been one of the last to pick. Hasn't benefited me as of yet. I suppose miracles do happen in the late rounds but i've yet to see one.
You misunderstood. What they did was change the valuation method, not add more shit players. That would be stupid and pointless.
For example (made up percentages b/c I don't know the exact ones), on a rank from best to worse, you used to have 10% As, 10% Bs, 30% Cs, and 50% Ds. While now it's 5% As, 10% Bs, 20% Cs, and 65% Ds
What this means is that, for example, a player that was ranked 8th out of 100 was an A, but not anymore, now that percentile is a B

no, i understand that. It's not a matter of adding more shit players, rather so few quality players to be found, combined with the unknown, what draft position one will be in. Late round picks, as i have been basically means one of 2 things, hope and pray those b4 you dont show up for the draft or if they do, you're relegated to choosing from the lower caliber players, which is predominately D players.
Draft is awesome. My usually superior academy gets me some pretty high picks in the first draft. And I still have 14 weeks of regular pulls. It's also awesome that the players from the last draft do not age with the season change. I always dreaded getting a good pull in the last week. So that's another reason why the draft is awesome. I love it

Yeah, I think I had a bit of an off/rebuilding season. I lost a couple games I should've won, I wasn't quite as focused and let my lineups get messy a couple times, I invested a lot of energy into the ChL and NC, and a couple of my previously top guys are aging with no immediate replacement available.
I even thought I might have a chance to catch you near the end of the season, but the back-to-back losses to Arsenal and Magic Kicks really knocked me out of it (especially the latter, at home, after a straight red in the third minute).
I think next year may be a little better... the CWC will require less energy, and I've got a pretty good sum of money in the bank to make a couple of upgrades. Plus I think a couple of my young guys will be ready for prime time by the end of the season. So we'll see... maybe I'll be able to catch back up.

I have to admit that it was nice to watch you and zomg struggle down the stretch for a change
I'm not sure if it's true, but it seems like I was always doing that late in the season. Always coming up just short.
I'll probably struggle a bit next season. I sold two of my older players, including CF Dekker. He wasn't as good as he should have been, but I still think it will be hard to replace him with the 22-23 yo Korbetsky and Diaz. I'd love to find a proper stud forward like so many of you have. I can't ride McCready's back much longer.
Carpenter & Strickland should have no problem replacing the old CD Gregorovich that I sold. In fact, I'd like to use them both more than the other CD Sauvage. But he's got a ton of experience, so he'll be important for another season or two.
I'd also like to make a change or two in the Midfield. now might be a good time to do that since I'll be burning extra energy in the ChL.
When's the last time you were in the CWC? I pretty much used my friendly lineups in the group stage, and for at least one round of the playoffs. There's not much competition until the later rounds unless you get really unlucky. I think Canucks' OAP was the only tough team that I played this season. That was in the Semis. You should have fun

I always struggle down the stretch too... the only reason I've managed to keep third is because it seems like we all struggle a bit at the end of the season in the 3-6 range.
I think we're in a similar situation with our younger players. I've been watching my young studs inch closer and closer to catching the starters, but they're never quite there. They aren't quite as good as the top team, so they never build up the same experience, and then the starters just stay ahead by a bit. Soon I'm going to have to just sell the geezers and rely on the young guys, but it's tough to accept a drop in performance for a season or two.
I spoke too soon about the CWC, unfortunately. Corona won the ChL tournament, so we'll get 5 teams there instead of four, and I'll have to battle all the top teams again. Last time I was in the CWC was season 9, and I took runner-up.

Yep. Pretty much everything you said could be said about my team. I'm starting to think that it might be better in the long run to just go with the younger players. They would probably be good enough to get me into the CWC each season. Which is a lot better than burning energy in the ChL and struggling to finish fifth in the league. Plus I'll never catch the Coronas or the Boilermakers with the current starters anyway. Might as well do something drastic, eh?
But I think this every off-season and I trot out mostly the same old guys every season. I might finally make two lineups this season and actually use the second one. The problem with this is the players who are in both lineups get burned out.
See? I started this post all ready to make the switch and I'm already back tracking. Dammit. I need to buy and sell a player or two to force my hand.

Congrats to the Arlington Betamax and Magic Kicks FC on making the finals of the league cup. It's a surprising final (though at least a few of the favorites were probably running camps). I guess the extra energy for the superleague cup can also be seen as a liability.
I finally replaced half of my older players (around 25) with younger players (around 20-21). If I couldn't make the top 14 with my roster this season with ~25 year olds, it probably wasn't going to happen in the future. I only kept my three best players, and 2 23 year olds (including my keeper) who were among the best players I have pulled. I replaced all both of my starting forwards, two midfielders, one defender, and three backups.
I will still probably have to rebuild my roster again once I am finished with facilities (I finally have a level 15 training facility, and I have the money budgeted for a level 15 HR department and level 14 sports academy when I have the chance to do upgrade them) and also save money for the prospects.

The thing about playing younger players to get experience is that they end up training a bit less. I've never been sufficiently motivated to test if the experience earned ends up being worth more than the extra training, of if it's a wash, or if it actually makes them worse in the long run.
So I end up doing it the easy way, just playing old guys until they unequivocally drop below youngsters, and then selling the old farts when convenient.
