Oggetto: Lineups and Tactics

I've been reading around a lot of different football forums here on PPM and have noticed a lot of people play very basic lineups for their football teams.

The most common seems to be the basic 4-4-2 system with 4 defenders, 4 midfielders and 2 forwards.

Personally I have trained my midfielders to be certain types of players, so tend to run a 4-1-2-1-2 lineup with my midfielders split into CMD (center midfield defense), WD (wing midfield) and CMA (center midfield attack). My forwards are also split into either forwards or strikers.

So, what do you guys do?

I will try to switch from 3-5-2 till 3-4-3 this season, and also leaning till 3-3-4, which is in my opinion the best tactics in a game (if you can avoid loosing to much possession in midfield with only 3 midfielders). Probably the best one will be 2-3-5, but I doubt that anyone can stop attacks with only 2 defenders (maybe if have two defenders like Ventaja is

just dont count on 3-3-4 or 2-3-5 to much since they have said they want to make these "wierd" formations useless

3-3-4 isn't weird... it's insane to have 4 forwards and 3 defenders, but it has been done.

yes but they are planning on making those formations that are unreal perform badly, which is good.

This shouldn't be a weird formation. A lot of teams in last 10-20minutes of the match use similar tactics when they are loosing and trying to score...

and alot of teams use their goalkeepers as strikers for the corners at the end of games when they are trailing

In modern real life football - best tactic is 4-4-2 that looks more like 2-6-2 and sometimes like 2-5-3 or 2-4-4.

That means wing becks are more offensive than they could be in PPM tactics. And attacking midfielders are almost like forwards.

In PPM we are forced to make mono skill players - there is no chance that AMC play as forward or reverse. Look Gigs for example - he can play as LM, CM, FW. Messi - is he forward or AM ? What about wingers that play one half on left and one on right side?

In PPM midfielder that have mid100 def20 and att30 gets same marks on DM or AM - so obviously AM with mid100 don't need 30 on att. I would like to have AM with mid80 and att40 or 70-50 or 60-60 - but his marks would tell me that's not good for PPM engine.

You CAN train multi-position players.. it just takes longer.

Also... that mid80 att40 player would work.... a player changes position, and from what Vlady and others have said in the past, a players attributes are determined by where he is on the field at the time. So an attacking midfield would work if he's in the offensive area of the field.

Does player ratings in match statistics suppose to tell us how skilled player is for position he played at ?

And YES - you can train your players as you like

Stats, attributes and qualities.

The reason I put little into the player ratings in match stats is that it's a number that has no true meaning. Nobody knows what it is other than an overall summary of how a player did.

I prefer to use detailed stats from my players... and historically, my midfielders with higher shooting and offense tend to have more attacking stats, etc.

I agree with you. I train attack to my attack miedfielders and they are in every offensive action in the match. My system of training is very high but I am glad with it.
