...excuse my presumption at thinking I know what I am doing but with quite a few newcomers coming here regularly figured a guide on what to do and not to do would be good so here I go...oh and if this is a no no whoever the mod is feel free to delete my post, likewise would not mind vets adding to this etc...
Question (Q): So I have my new team, now what?
Answer (A): Read the rule book
Q: Um, that is long and I started but any hints for getting my team up and running now?
A: Well first thing do not get emotional about assets (as in your players). Take a look at all of them currently on your squad, once you get rid of them all (and replace them with market players on the market) only then can you expect to start winning?
Q: So I dump them all now?
A: No, over time, took me about 2 months to fully feel comfortable, though by about a month and a half I had dumped ALL my original players.
Q: What happens if I make an error?
A: That is how you learn. I made errors, but thus far am doing well in my division (though am sure if I promote will get smoked next season as I learn more - including learning what I thought I did right that I actually did wrong).
Q: Okay so I go to the market right now?
A: Well study the market but do not buy or sell until you know what you are doing. You can lose a ton of money if you do not know what you are doing by overbidding on players.
Q: So how much do I spend?
A: Study the best teams in your division, or study teams that are close to your level and who are improving. See how they improve, how much they spend to give yourself an idea.
Q: Okay, anything else?
A: Remember you are running a soccer business. CHECK YOUR FINANCES CONSTANTLY. I cannot highlight this enough. Ensure that the amazing player you get on the market is a player YOU CAN AFFORD. See that daily expense thing below their skills, that is how much the player will cost you EVERY DAY. I can guarantee if it is over 20K per day it is much too high (and if it is close to that it is too much for your club to afford).
Q: Why 20K?
A: Really should be 10K if you ask me but I suspect there are some who had a star player from the beginning who was above that (whether a goalie or top forward etc) and who know more then me about this sim).
Q: Okay, anything else?
A: Watch the age of the players, and when their contract runs out, players become RFAs (restricted free agents at age 26).
Q: Cool, anything else
A: Scout the best teams in your division (their best, youngest players). It will give you ideas as to what you should be looking for.
Q: Anything else?
A: Train your players properly.
Q: What you mean by that?
A: Read the docs, figure it out, if you have read thus far then it is an easy read in comparison.
Q: What about arena, facilities, staff?
A: Yeah, they are important though I am still not sure on the best strat in relation to that at the moment. If you expect amazing players from your sports academy early on though expect to be disappointed (as in kid finds out santa does not exist disappointment - if you still believe in Santa, realize I am giving a hypothetical example...)
Q: How do I make money in this sim, isn´t that the most important thing which will help my team be great or suck?
A: Yep, in terms of how to make money, read the docs, think, and be patiently aggressive, there is always a (legal) way to make more money (that last part is my quote...yes I do have an ego so if you are a vet reading this feel free to challenge my team to a friendly (at the larger stadium) and enjoy kicking the tar outta my club (though I appreciate the revenue - one hint for the newbies reading this)...
...afterthought: gosh I hope I did not do a typo in the stuff above, really do not feel like proofing it at the moment...
